Boise beat San Diego St today, so that probably means the Mountain West will get 5 teams in. That 5th team in from the MWC could cost Iowa a berth.

Agree with the first part. The 2nd part not sure. This isn't a formula and they spit things out. There will be room for analysis which is why more may be needed.

Were electronic means the peerless determent of tournament teams, my inclination would be to acquiesce to your premise. However, with the human element a primary component, these victories lack the merit you assert.

Correct. What it does NOT take into account is margin of victory/defeat.

So someone who loses to Duke by 40 gets just as much credit as a team that loses to Duke in triple overtime. Stupid as heck, but that's the way it works.

This is also correct. ISU punched their ticket with their last two wins over OSU and WVU. They could lose to OU in the Big XII Tournament and still be in. They won't get a good seed, but they're in.
