What a painful weekend. I still think this team deserves us to stick with them for a little because unlike last year I think this team can improve.
Now onto ULM, they played Texas Tech close for 30 minutes and lead for a while in the second half but then fell apart losing by 19. ULM has a new head coach and only returns 1 starter, regains another who took a medical redshirt, and a transfer from Kansas State who is eligible this year. Their three leading contributors against TT were
#55 Fred Brown 6'2 190lbs - First year elgible after transferring from Kansas State where he averaged 20 mins/8 pts as a freshman. He scored 25 pts and a ridiculous 7-10 from 3 pt land. We need to get a hand in his face.
#22 Lawrence Gilbert 6'7 210lbs - 18 pts/5 rbs he will be their four matching up against Basabe. This will be a good second chance for Basabe.
#41 Fabio Ribeiro 6'10 245lbs - It's sad that ULM has the height advantage over us but hopefully Fran can change that soon. Ribeiro had 10 rebounds against TT. This will be a big matchup for Cole/Brommer both of whom fouled too frequently last game.
I'm not expecting much Tuesday but we certainly can't play worse and I don't think we'll even play as poorly. One last word on Basabe. During PTL I said he would be the most frustrating player to watch because he forces things and is raw, but also has a huge ceiling. Unfortunately I was right Sunday but I think some people were a little too harsh judging him after one game. I'm predicting he'll play more within himself Tuesday and have a big game for us.
