Looks Like Rudock Is LOSING the Mich QB Competition: Will He Quit Again?

Per maize n blue, as of July 16, 2015, they believe the starting job is Shane Morris' to lose. Jake was brought in more as an insurance policy than a starter. Gotta wonder if he would have quit on his teammates had he known that Harbaugh would not hand him the starting job just for showing up (like Kirk did his soph and jr years). While there is still a long ways to go until opening kick, this could be an example of karma at it's best. Had Jake not been at Iowa the past 4 years, he would not have any starting experience at all, and would have been a 3rd teamer at most schools, and no one would even know the guy's name.

Fail.

Jake Ruddock was very good recruit, with other good offers (Minny, Ill, Wisconsin and Miami late). According to you this makes him a super star, and you would have railed on this staff on how they can't get star kids like him into the program if he would have gone elsewhere. You would then have complained the next year that they signed a player that nobody else wants (CJ Bethard) who had Iowa as his only P5 offer (Tulane, SMU) as Mississippi yanked his scholarship and said he wasn't good enough for them.

Fast forward a few years and you are now ripping on the very "star" kid that you b1tch, moan and complain about this staff isn't getting. Dude you are all over the board, up is down, left is right. I mean which is it. According to you, this staff has to get player like JR who have multiple good P5 offers??? But now playing a Jake is something "only Iowa" would do, and he would be a 3rd teamer everywhere else.....Meanwhile the kind of kid you complain about getting is the guy with the Golden arm, and so much more obvious talent than that "star recruit" that even a dolt like you can see that.

Maybe JR went to Michigan more for the post football career opportunities so he is fine with however it shakes out.

This reminds me of Cody Sokol's situation at LT. You can't just show up in the middle of summer and be handed the job over returning players. But I think that Sokol knew if he progressed the way his coach expected, he would be starting eventually. As it turned out, I believe Sokol was named the starter the week before the first game and Sokol remained the starter the whole season.

It will be same deal at Mich. Harbaugh won't name the game 1 starter until the week before. Until that that time, its Morris job to lose. But the odds are that Rudock will overtake Morris and be the starter by game 1.

God damn Harbaugh, he's already cheating. is he holding a secret camp somewhere? This is bullshat. He can't do that. I'm not surprised Morris is beating Rudock out. I'm sure during this secret camp, Shane is throwing circles around him and Jake is just checking down all the time.

Congrats to Shane...Where the hell is the NCAA?

havn't even started summer workouts yet.

Really a good point. I am one that was rooting heavily for CJ, so JR leaving didn't bother me, other than from a depth perspective. But let's be honest, JR didn't participate in UM's spring workouts, so how could he be listed #1? Shane Morris looks to have won the spring competition and now will compete against JR in the fall camp. Maize 'n Blue simply stating the obvious.

I don't think Jake was a big fan of the process in which the decision was made and wanted out of the situation. He also had a better chance to enter a "real" competition for a starting role. Kirk made it clear that he knew Beathard would likely be the starter next year. Like someone else here said the medical program at Michigan was a no lose situation for him. Even if he doesn't get the spot he wanted it would of been cause he truly didn't win it and still would be able to continue his medical education in a top notch university regardless. He was a classy Hawk who never threw anyone under the bus publicly despite how bad the situation was handled. I wish him the best.

I also don't think that Jake gets zero snaps this year. Morris is young and could have a really bad half at some point this year and Jake could be asked to step in. It happens all the time.

CP, you hit it right on the head here. Harbaugh will not be shy about pulling any starter and using any subs. Unlike KF who cant handle the QB position and leave it to his OCs/QB coaches, Jake will probably get snaps just to see what he has. KF was and is terrible about getting his backups snaps (2009 and 2012 jump right out). Was Stanzi eligible in 2007 to get snaps when Jake C. was so bad?

And as far as if Morris or the starting UM QB having a bad half , harbaugh again will make changes , my gawd they stayed with Colin Kapernick over Alex Smith when Smith was injured and having a great year (now not sure if that was harbaughs call the next year to go with Colin). How many times just last year did JR have a completely wasted half of football but we hardly saw CJ at all.

Getting pulled because you are playing bad and using the old cliche "The starting QB needs to stand on the sidelines to get a view and rhythm of the game" is another way of saying the coach pulled him to motivate him and to try to get some life in his offense. KF is pretty bad at running with a broken down horse, pardon the cliche if that even is one.

It's way too early... Till he's put their helmet on once practice starts in August I don't think any of the speculation matters. Of course he's behind. He's not Russell Wilson. There's a reason he's as highly thought of as he is. From what PT Morris has put out there on film I'd say it's safe to say even if he beats out JR to start day one JR will end up playing and I bet he'll end up playing more then Morris. What kind of melt down will this site have if JR has a good year and they go to a big bowl game?

Let's get something straight: Jake is not enrolled in Michigan's medical program, and has not been admitted to it. Whether or not he rides the bench for their football team for a semester will not boost his chances of getting in.

Jake was not a genius molecular biology major, like Kirt tried to make him out to be when justifying changing the entire football team's practice schedule to fit Jake's. He was an "interdisciplinary studies" major, like many/most football players. Jake enrolled in Michigan's kinesiology program (i.e. akin to physical education), which has no relation to its medical school.

I'm sure he's a smart kid and he kept his nose clean. But those thinking that taking a couple of kinesiology classes at Michigan has anything to do with the U of Michigan medical school has no clue what they are talking about.

.

How did you get a hold of his college transcript and grades?

wow, once again iowalaw shows his ignorance

No, but he shows his Cyclone troll colors in every post. Literally, every post he makes is directly or indirectly negative towards Iowa. Our 4 star basketball recruits don't count because they're in-state. Every single one of our football recruits is terrible. If Jon paid any attention to this site he would have banned that ******* ****** a long time ago.

kinesiology=physical education- you, my friend, are a moron.

his senior bio. from the university website lists him as a microbiology major along with pre-med designation - all the pre-med designation is is that you take a subset of courses as a requisite for entry into medical school - organic chemistry 1 and 2 along with lab, i believe are examples of premed requisite classwork. pre med is not a degree, just a subset of classes.

now, the iowa biology department doesn't have a 'microbiology' degree - in the biology department there are three different degree paths - which leads to the next point......microbiology undergrad falls under the medical school umbrella. two separate schools.......

interdisciplinary studies - i have a biology degree from iowa - and advanced degrees from iowa as well. if you do really well, you can create your own path of study - per department head 'permission'. for example, one could select coursework from two or more separate curriculum and set your own degree path. maybe he did so with microbiology and biology - that certainly would be interdisciplinary studies.......

They did not "yank his scholarship and say he wasn't good enough". They switched coaches and Beathard saw he wasn't the best fit for the new coach's system, so he jumped on KOK's offer.
