Looks like I will lose my seats!!!

Yesterday in the mail I got a letter from the University about season tickets. Looks as if they are going to reward people with lots of $$$$$. In the new "seating charts" My wife and I would need to donate 600 dollars plus our season tickets and then still only have have a chance to keep our seats in section BB row 7 seats 1 & 2. There are 4 different levels and minimum is 200 dollars and those are for seats in rows 25-39. For 400 dollars you can move to seats in rows 11-24 on immidiate sides and rows 23-42 dead center. For 600 dollars dead center you get rows 6-24 and sides of 6-10. There are "premium" seats available but those don't even have a dollar amount attached to them. Not a happy camper right now!!! With a family of 4 we just can't swing the amounts to keep our seats!!! I can't say we still won't find a way to get season tickets but when I first read it I was ready to move on, I was that mad!!!!

$600 is a deal. I pay $500 to be at the 40 yard line, 10th row, 2nd deck at Iowa State. Now I know many of you dont care about ISU and I'm begging for jokes about ISU, but you have to donate 5k at ISU to sit in the same seats at Kinnick. Maybe that why we dont totally sell out many games(along with with the severe inconsistency), but JTS doesn't have even close to the same amount of seats to make up the difference.

He isn't talking about Kinnick, these are the new donation levels now for Carver Hawkeye Arena for wrestling and basketball season tickets. The Kinnick donations have been around for 5 or 6 years now.

I dont get the whole idea of "donations". I donation is a voluntary gift but this is a requirement for those seats. Why dont they just call it a fee like what it really is.

If they call it a 'fee' then you couldnt write it off on your taxes as a donation. They are calling it such so to help people out a little bit that are going to pay it.

Remember boys and girls that under the relevant IRS regulations, one's I-Club donation that is used toward seating is only 80% deductible.

Go Hawks!

Do you donate for football, if so that applies for bball. There are lots of seats available, opposite the student section that do not require a donation.

It's important to note that the seating chart in that mailing ONLY applies to men's basketball. Although women's basketball and wrestling will also be re-seated based on priority points, I don't think there are minimum additional annual donations required as there is for football and men's bb.

With all due respect, your not entitled to those seats. If the University wants to charge more or ask for an additional donation, they certainly have that right. There are plenty of good seats in Carver.

I'm sure I'll get blasted for this, but its just the way it is, they try to maximize their revenue, like every business.

I don't understand why people complain about this. Its not like we're talking about food, or your livelihood, its sports.

I agree, I would rather just see them increase the price of those "premium" level seats, rather they say you have to make a certain donation.

Just seems like the logical way to do it.

Yes because in the last 3 years the university has put a good enough product on the floor to command more money for seats.... All this is going to do is even have LESS people at the games to watch the players.

this is the opposite of what the should be doing for basketball...should have buy one season game ticket get one free

I understand what you're saying, but unfortunately if you make tickets too cheap, people subconsciously devalue the product even more. It's why people are more likely to buy something if it's $1 that they wouldn't take for free.

I don't think UI has quite figured out the magic price point yet for men's basketball.

That's always been my theory on Carlos O Kelly's chips and salsa. They leave so much money out there. If they charged $1.50 everyone would still buy them.

I could have read it wrong and just been so mad about it that I read it wrong and it only pertains to BB. Here's what might be considered a "stupid" question. Can they do something like this for a "non-revenue" sport? Like I said earlier its not that we don't WANT to give them the money its just that we CANT! I have 2 kids that are 8 & 4 and just don't make enough money to donate more than about 1 to 2 hundred a year! Sorry I am not made of money. Just want to enjoy my FAVORITE sport!!!!

That's a under statement:rolleyes:
