Looking at the board, it appears Penn State is worst team in conf

Last I looked, this is still a 4-1 team whose only loss is to a top 5 team.

We lost to Iowa ******* State and was well on its way to getting blown out of the water against a 2-3 Pitt team.

We know nothing about our team, except that we threw a wrinkle into our offense that now has our fan base all hot and bothered.

Can we win? Of course! I don't think we are a bad team and I don't think Penn State is great and we seem to have their number.

But this is still Beaver Stadium, and our starting QB has yet to win a game on the road.

We have owned Penn St. over the last 10 years. Penn St. is a team that has offensive issues, and they lost their top defensive player. So yes Iowa fans are thinking this is a very winnable game. But just like every conference game, if the Hawks don't lace em up and come to play, they could very easily lose the game.

I know the Indiana game did not look good but they still won the game. A couple of years ago Iowa was winning ugly games as well but they are still wins. Granted playing at Penn State does not look as scary as it did before the season started but Iowa cannot afford to play anyone without being at the top of their game.

We turn the ball over more than once, we're done.

Winning on the road is so tough, especially in a atmosphere like Beaver Stadium.

People are underestimating how much that can effect a game.

"...But just like every conference game, if the Hawks don't lace em up and come to play, they could very easily lose the game."

Yup. This ain't the B12 North. It seems that every year in the B10 there is a bottom feeder that reaches up and bites a upper half team. It looks like Iowa should have no trouble with Penn State. But its still Penn State and they aren't impressed by what should happen. Home field advantage is a big factor.

This game scares the beejesus out of me. Don't think we should be thinking we will have no trouble with PSU. We are far from saying that agains't any BIG opponent. At PSU, never a given.

Okay, so it what you are all saying that it is hard to win on the road in the B1G? Okay. But don't go too far. I mean you all sound like NW fans saying it's hard to win in Kinnick.

Here is something of note. The closest game to date for Alabama was against Penn State and they held them to Alabama's lowest point total. This is with Alabama playing against ranked Arkansas and at Florida.

A lot of us are excited about Iowa's offense but it will be interesting to see how they do against a Penn State defense as opposed to a LMU defense.

It is pretty amazing here. After the ISU game it was 5-7, 6-6 talk and I was one of the few that was talking people back from the ledge. Now most posters believe Iowa should beat PSU on the road.

I think Iowa is going to get beat unless they play by far their best game of the season. They've played one solid team this year (Pitt) and three tomato cans. One of those tomato cans actually beat them.

Iowa has talent but are still a major work in progress.

I agree. Hawk fans have been Bipolar this year. Markedly depressed after the loss, and then arguably overly optimistic now.

This will be a tough game. My hope is that they made a lot of strides in practice over the past two weeks. The season is in front of them. I'm hoping they continue to improve each week.

It will be a tough game. Tough atmosphere (this team doesn't have the same mental makeup as 2009, people). Extremely tough defense. Fortunately PSU sucks on O, so it's really going to be a dogfight. That usually favors the home team, but Iowa has a good chance if they keep a bulldog attitude to the end.

PSU has an elite D. On O, they have decent RBs and WRs. Weaknesses on the OL and QB has been terrible. Going to be an interesting, tough game.

What? Pitt has two tuff, close road losses to Iowa and Notre Dame. And a win over a Top25 team. And they are 3-2 not 2-3. Penn St was dominated at home by Bama and barley beat both Temple and Indiana. I feel much better about this game now than I did before the season.

They won close because their O sucks and their D is great. This probably means it's going to be a close game with the Hawks. Going to be a tough game and Iowa needs play well and not pucker up if things are dicey late.

I agree that Pitt is a talented team (they were a little unseasoned when we played them).

We are not a good enough team that a motivated team with less talent can not beat us. That is why we beat Penn State regularly. We are more motivated to beat PSU than other teams on our schedule. We will get better but a true fan will find reasons to root for his team even if it is less than realistic.

typical thought process, lose to ISU=worst team in the conference and a major work in progress, Coker isn't avg 200 yrds a game agter 4 game, clamor goes out for another rb to replace him, PSU is still is a great fb power, Iowa will be lucky to hang with them, let them play the game, up to this point they have a terrible QB and can't make up their mind who to play, they lost their top player on D, i like our chances at this point, no matter where the game is at

Good post. If we are the better team, PSU's D and them being at home will be able to keep it close. Going to be a hard-fought game.

I think we'll look back and be happy with playing ISU and Pitt in the non-conference. Those games really forced the development of this team. I'm hoping it pays off.

I think this will be a tough game, but I wouldn't underestimate having 2 weeks to prepare for them. Kirk is usually a wizard during bowl preparation, except he only has 2 weeks instead of a month to prepare.
