Iowa Junior Learned on Job in Year 1 as Starter
The kid from Miami of Ohio is coming in as a grad transfer so he is finishing his degree and will come here in June, I believe. There was talk when he committed that he would move to guard but not sure. He must have some indication that he can come in and play and they seem pretty high on the kid. And I agree with you, we will be as good as our O-Line is.Curious also if there is competition there as well? Didn't we get a transfer from Miami of Ohio that was a grad transfer that has ties to Barnett? Either way, I am hoping for a much improved and cohesive line. I think we go as the O-line goes.
Sounds like McNamara is settling in nice and showing he is very capable to doing all the things to make this offense successful. With Lachey and All along with our staple of running backs, I think we can do the things we need to move the ball.
I also think our receiving group will be very serviceable.

In an ideal world, this would be the way to go. But, with injuries and guys have bad games, you do have to have some guys that can be flexible and can plug and play. We were so young and banged up at times last year and some guys were playing out of position. With pretty much everyone back and the coaches having seen a lot of live snaps with these guys, I hope the SL can be set early. It seems to me that the LT, LG and Center are locked in barring injury. The other two positions are a bit more up in the air and I don't mind letting those battles go through camp. If the OL avoids the injury bug, I am confident it will perform much better than last season. A lot of returning starts and experience along that line, and honestly, they have nowhere to go but up.While I care SOMEWHAT about who starts along the O-line, I care MORE that the starters on the O-line are identified 2 weeks prior to the first game of the season. They need time to jell as a unit with repetition after repetition with the same guys next to them. I know Iowa coaches like their linemen to be 'versatile' and be able to 'plug and play' different positions, but this O-line carousel stuff has got to STOP! Constantly rotating different O-linemen in and out of games from one quarter or series to the next isn't helping the players, and it's not helping the offense be successful.
I don't know if a depth chart released in the spring for the Oline has even been half right once week 1 comes. Only usually the obvious be it Lindy or Wirfs are penciled in correctly. This yr could be a jumbled up mess too. Richman is probably the only one deserving of being nailed down. I suppose Jones will be at center again but if we had options at that spot we should explore them. While I care SOMEWHAT about who starts along the O-line, I care MORE that the starters on the O-line are identified 2 weeks prior to the first game of the season.
