Lickliter gets a new job

Damn it. I was holding out a little longer so I could get him on the cheap to star in my new reverse psychology coaching skills video.

Hopefully Miami-Ohio has a good journalism department so they can put a positive spin on his time at Iowa. Lickliter won NCOY at Butler, then spent 3 years at Iowa where he engineered a complete collapse of the program, alienated fans, ran players off and drove attendance to historic lows. Welcome Todd to the Red Hawk family

Maybe Cully will bolt Loyola-Chicago for the friendly confines of Oxford, Ohio with TL on the sidelines.

wouldn't one assume that he will have to recruit? Good luck with that.

Yeah, I would suggest to him that he doesn't ask recruits to sell themselves on why Miami of Ohio should accept them.

That said, I hope he parlays this into a head coaching gig sometime.

Good for him. I have no doubt that Lick is an excellent X's and O's guy. He was just in over his head on the recruiting level of the big ten.

Having a NCOY as an assistant certainly won't hurt their recruiting.

No, but having Lickliter recruit certainly will. Miami plays one of the most boring styles of bball in the country so Lick will fit in well there. I believe their coach is near the end of the line so maybe he see's this as a chance to take over for him in a few years. I don't wish him well.

Why? I don't understand this at all. Just because he sucked at recruiting doesn't mean he was a good X's and O's guy.

If placing your head in your hands for the majority of the game makes you an "excellent X's and O's guy" then Lackluster was certainly a master.

Good for him. Ditto on I hope he does well. Standup guy, wrong fit.

I agree it was the wrong fit but I will never consider Lackluster a "standup guy." He plain sucked at recruiting, X's and O's, motivating players, firing up crowds, relating to fans and the donor base. And it became pretty apparent by the end of year 2 the players didn't like him very much. When it was obvious by the end of year 3 that it just wasn't working, instead of resigning and looking to move on to something that was a better fit he apparently tried to continue to hold onto the Iowa job, and made sure every penny owed him would be paid.

Nothing pi$*^#d me off more about him than this. Head down in his hands or leaning back with his hands behind his head. Found myself screaming at him to get up and coach! The body language he was sending the team was "I am so smart, how can you be sooo stupid?" Can see why players left so fast.
Miami can have him

I hated Lickliter....BUT in his defense...why would he voluntarily resign...and forgo the money Iowa owes him. He already looked bad, I would have made sure I got my golden parachute too. Common sense, it's not like if he would have left he would have magically been snapped up by some school.
