I'm no insider, but from reading those that are, I get the suspicion that the money IS already sitting in the bank!
Tweeting an incoming recruit congratulations is acting like a coach? We should have a lot of qualified replacements out there.
Roy Williams was at the Ames game on Saturday. That's what coaches do with an incoming recruit.Don't disrespect him over this... this is exactly what coaches do with incoming recruit. They use the popular media devices the recruits use in order to communicate with them. Remember the Harrison Barnes Skyped Roy Williams when he committed...

Tweeter is absolutely correct. I am almost certain that Lickliter will be back next season.
I have noticed two trends here that are amusing. First is that people here think it is really easy to buy out millions of dollars of a contract and then shell out more for another coach when it isn't your money. I don't know where the assumption came from that Barta is sitting on a huge pile of money to throw around came from, but it is very bizarre.
Second, the assumption that the events of last week have somehow made Barta cross the Rubicon, i.e. it has come so far, he has no choice but to fire him. Please, someone give me a single, legitimite, sourced story that Barta has or had any intentions on firing Lick, that Lick had any intentions on leaving, or that any players threatened to leave.
Waiting...
People seem to think so much has changed, but nothing changed.
Being that Iowa is sitting right behind Notre Dame in athletic revenue... two words.. Charlie Weis.
That was a much more ridiculous buyout than Lickliter. As for a source... I think you just need to read between the lines of Barta saying... he uses the word "I" when addressing his evaluation and decisions for next year.... doesn't say "we" as in coach and I, but I. I. I.
Like I said, it is easy how to decide to spend other people's money.
And of course I forgot that most AD's make coaching changes by asking the fans to infer meaning in banal generalities in post-season press releases. That one's on Ghost.
ok, that is pretty funny. I understand what your saying... I like to argue.. You are correct in many ways... I just don't believe that there is a ton of logic used in major division 1 athletics when it comes to hiring and firing coaches. I think the fans speak louder than you are giving credit.
I am just the opposite. When someone is responsibile for spending millions of dollars, they use a great deal of logic in firing and hiring.
Fans are often ignorant, short-sighted, emotional, and completely oblivious to all contingencies, and are much, much much less likely to use logic in this scenario, since they are emotionally involved (rather than logically), and they are insulated from the problems. If something goes wrong, they are not the ones getting fired, and stuck looking for a new city to live in.
The smart people who acheive in their line of work don't (and shouldn't) take their cues from a group of flighty people who do not fully comprehend the situation.
