Yes im bummed that we lost out on Higdon, but everything happens for a reason, and this Eric Graham kid is a nice replacement. No other offers, but looks like he has a ton of talent. This kid wants to be a hawk, and I believe he's gonna work harder than Higdon ever wouldve.

How cool would it be if he turns out to be another dallas clark type story?

Best of luck! Go hawks.

Who's not giving him support?!

I don't get why so many of you marshmallows feel the need to give your pep talks and make situations where there are none. No need to sugar coat it ... he was a fallback that no other school wanted and he knows it.

Let's hope he works hard. Hope he becomes one of "the stories" (that are few and far between the last several years). Wish him all the best and a successful Hawkeye career.

Hopefully he makes the grades and earns a degree as a hawkeye

He had a 3.0 gpa in high school so he should be fine academically. From what I understand it was just his ACT score that kept him out of Vanderbilt.

This is what I read from Rob Howe.............

"We've had calls from Notre Dame and Kentucky and a lot of other schools (Mississippi State, Duke, Vanderbilt) interested and Iowa stayed with him through the process. He got all of his criteria right on the sliding scale and they hung with him and he wanted to become a Hawkeye this morning," Sims said.
Had Iowa not offered Wednesday morning, Sims said some of the other interested schools were waiting on Graham to take the ACT again this weekend, which he will do anyway.
"The way it goes with your GPA and the sliding scale, they wanted him to sure himself up with a couple of extra points on the ACT. Coach (David) Cutcliffe at Duke was waiting on this next score to come in. But Iowa stuck with him and that meant a lot to him," Sims said.
The sliding scale is shown here. In the simplest terms, the combination of the GPA and test score must reach NCAA requirements for admission into college. It sounds like Graham is on the border, so a higher ACT result this weekend could help but a drop in GPA could hurt.

Reading it again maybe the other schools listed needed a higher ACT score than Iowa but not sure why he would take the test again.

Its hard to fathom a person not being able to meet that academic criteria unless they are simply not trying.

Looks like he also doesn't have a list of offers from Tennessee Tech, Grambling, or other small schools so it's not like we're getting a MAC like recruit to flip either, like we've done with some others. Kid looks like he can play so I'm all in.

View Graham's high lite tape. It's awesome. I know his school had 39 students and consequently the competition was 'small', but he can run (a 4.41 40), he can cut on a dime, he has hops, he can catch the ball, and he looks sturdy.

Graham said he was excited to get with Doyle in the weight room. Liked Iowa's nursing program. Both parents are ministers.

Not sure grades were such an issue. Heck, Duke was waiting on his latest ACT retake. Likes snow. Great get for the Hawks. Congrats, coaching staff.

For those of us who follow college football closely we're going to know for the next several years that Graham was the kid the Hawks got because Higdon bailed on his commitment on signing day. Which means in one way or another his career is going to be compared to Higdon's in the eyes of Hawk fans. Here's to hoping he works his tail off and proves to everyone on the field that he was the better choice all along. He certainly sounds like a good kid who is happy to be here, and personally that means a lot more to me than someone who backed out on his commitment at the last minute.

Could not have said it any better. Spot on.

It would be great if Graham would have a great career ,one that makes us forget about Higdon. One can only hope.

1. Since when don't we support an incoming recruit?
2. How can you possibly speculate that he's gong "work harder than Higdon ever would". Everything I've read indicates that Higdon is a winner. (including that he went for the biggest opportunity and best coach available to him)

Congrats to him. I'll congratulate the coaching staff when they put together a full year of good football.

So I assume that this http://www.ubathletics.buffalo.edu/compliance/slidingscale.pdf is just the base that someone has to reach to be eligible by the NCAA. Do most schools have higher standards? Or do most just use the baseline? I'm assuming places like Notre Dame, Northwestern, Standford, Vandy, etc. have higher requirements, but honestly don't know.

Also, are schools allowed to have one standard for student-athletes, and a different standard for regular students?

Just curious if anybody has insight into this...

Intelligence has a huge spectrum that ranges from genius to mentally ********. The further down the spectrum you are, the harder you have to try. If you're far enough down, trying isn't even good enough.
