Let's be honest...

Until the University of Iowa gets with it, we will never be a relevant Football program. All of you keep telling yourselves that 2 and 3 star recruits are "coached up" by the old coach but the truth has been evident for years. Kirk has done great things for the program but its simply time for him to go. The loss today is a fireable offense; he had 2 weeks to prepare and they put 10 points on the scoreboard - a statistic that is totally unacceptable. At the end of the day, we all know what is necessary - a change at the top. #firekirk

We don't need to strive to be the UM, tOSU. But we can damn sure try to model ourselves off of Wisconsin. Similar recruiting classes, similar schedules, different results.

That is EXACTLY why Ferments has been allowed so much leash at Iowa....Hayden would NEVER have said or quietly thought to himself what you just uttered. If we aren't striving for that, then Ferments is making about 5 x more than he should be for this shit we are seeing.....both on the field, and recruiting.

I've been waiting for a break through - not an anomaly like 2015 - I keep thinking that Iowa is building up to become like MSU and Wisconsin.

It hasn't happened. 2009 was a long time ago.

I think its coaching.

There is a lot of things Hayden would never have said, things like blaming the players, making excuses for losses, and trying to pound a square peg into a round hole. Fry was always unpredictable on offense and usually fun to watch until the game caught up to him. Even in wins how much joy do you feel when we squeak by a pretender or lose to a contender by a close score. I live for Iowa football but it's getting harder and harder to summon up my optimism for this program.

A post on a message board has a lot of power...

Isn't that why ferentz hired his son. The ferentz philosophy is we don't need to be UM or OSU, but take the money and run.

No, I don't think its why he hired Brian. I've never heard either of them say that, and doubt they feel that way.

I'm not massively impressed with BF thus far, and today was his worst overall showing, first 2 drives notwithstanding. I was hoping for better. The running into scrums on 1st and 2nd is maddening.

The idea that KF or BF doesn't care is stupid though.

What about MF?

I'm not sure anymore. Sure seems like friends and family come first these days. Rehiring KOK, and at that salary, and no one can objectively say Brian was the best choice for OC. Not even close. There easily had to be 25 guys with actual experience that wouldn't have needed some serious training wheels. But this was part of KF's 8 year plan.

Like I said in an earlier thread - if I was a player, especially an upperclassman, i would really be pissed off with the BF training program and apparent incompetence.

Coaches expect the player's best. But it hasn't been a two way street. Why should someone like Wadley, which so much has been expected from him, have to suffer through this just so pops can further his son's career? Where is the accountability from our leader?

3 things.

You are being negative.

You just cant blame Kirk.

If not massively impressed with Brian, what are you moderately impressed about him?

That would mean changing defenses (and head coaches). It's firmly stuck in my brain: That third down and forever scramble by jNW's QB to get the first down, keep their drive alive and eventually get them their only TD. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO IOWA'S DEFENSE WAY TOO OFTEN OVER THE YEARS..giving up a third down and long for a first down. Well, they prevented a score on the play but a first down???

Are you prepared to go that far? What's it called when one does the same thing over and over and still expects a different result?

Don’t forget.....Kirk DID hire a proven, successful offensive coordinator......and has him coaching the offensive line..a position he has NEVER coached before.

Brilliant.
