Let Tim Lester Locate Portal QB

Camden Colemen QB Richmond Spiders might be someone to look at.
A little more information. True Sophomore, 6'-3", 220

Started last year as a fourth string true freshman. Got pressed into playing fifth game of the year. Passed for 224 yards. Got his first college start in the next game against Maine. Threw for 365 yards and 6 TDs. (I realize the level of competition isn't that high, but holy smokes.)

Forget QB - futile pipe dream to get anyone above game mgr under KF because that's all he wants.
To that end, Iowa needs OL, LB and DB that can dictate the game and carry the team to Tampa each year.

I’m quietly wondering why Iowa has not recruited/. Developed O Line over the past 4 years.

Why it takes guys 4-5 years to be ready

Stick with Brendan and recruit a nice QB to fit the system and let Lester groom him. Forget getting these retreads from the portal. I mean this Moss sounds like he is pretty immobile and he got moved to the back-up role. Sound familiar? I mean I'd take a chance on him but not for $$$$$ gazillion dollars.
I'd stay far away from Moss... He's below avg size not mobile doesn't have the greatest arm. Was coached for multiple yrs by the QB guru Riley at USC and still didn't set the world on fire. Only has 1 yr left to play I think. I'm of the thinking if a QB that's as highly touted as he was coming out of HS can't develop under Riley learning behind Williams and then playing with 5 star WRs all over the place throwing 50 times a game then I'd take a pass. Let Louisville get him. There's gonna be lots of better options and ideally we should be looking for QB with multiple yrs of eligibility. Not a 1 and done rental

Well actually we kinda have... Richman, Jones Colby, Stephens all just did with Dunker included... They played a lot last yr and again this yr. Granted I'm no fan of our Oline coach either but the Oline did ok this yr. Pretty sure KJ would give them his stamp of approval.

Next yr will be interesting and back to playing some new guys. Jones I've heard is on the fence for coming back and that'd be huge.

you're right they did ok this year. However it took 4 years.

Which is what Iowa's all about. Having multi yr guys that get to playing their RS soph/Jr yrs so by the time they are seniors they are studs. Programs that plug and play new/young guys every yr have a tougher time. I wouldn't necessarily say one way is better though. Most coaches would probably prefer to develop their own kids then not. It's just not always feasible nowadays

I wasn't clear, what I forgot to mention is the OLine wasn't very good for 3 years...then they were OK this year.

this is what brings me back to my original post:

Some of it has to do with losing one of the better strength and conditioning coaches around, some it was a bad hire at OL coach, a couple early NFL entrants did not help, and honestly some of it is just recruiting misses.

I think KJ made the OL look better than they actually were.
Pass blocking was still pretty bad.

I wonder how many players will enter this year, and in coming years, what percentage of the total, and where it will level off at some point in the future

There's examples of both. There's some plays where KJ had large holes for him to run in a straight line through that were pretty impressive. And others where he got 8 yards when he shoulda got 2 on no doubt. But he couldn't have had the yr overall he had without Oline doing a great job it just woulda been impossible. And I agree pass blocking wasn't great and that's why I didn't think they deserved to be in the Joe Moore award talks

I concur. No back is good enough to run for those sort of yards without good line play, but KJ is tied with Greene as the best back in the KF era IMHO. If he had the 2002 OL KJ would have had 200 yards a game.

Yeah I remember when he entered the portal last time from WA going to Utah thinking that he'd be a sneaky good get and a good fit. Just seems like a west coast kid though and getting him to come to midwest might be tricky. Be cool to get a lefty too.

On3s website show's all the portal entries breaks em down by position too. It'd be so fun to be a fly on the wall in Tyler Barnes office this week. How's Iowa and other schools doing this? Are he KF and Lester holed up together in a bunker checking on the portal entries and contacting kids/agents? The whole thing blows my mind as to the inter workings of what's going on

I don't know, I am concerned about the 4th school in 4 years thing, as well as the fact that he already had 2 shots at earning time at a P4 school, and he left in both instances.

My perfect profile (as unrealistic as it may be), is a guy who was under-looked in HS (maybe because he was a multi-sport guy, maybe he was too short or slight, maybe just from a small school and he didn't do the camp circuit). He went to an FCS school, and he was just undeniable Ends up starting by the end of his freshman year, comes back, and really shows out as a soph. He plays in a balanced offense that requires him to throw to all levels. I don't care about a cannon arm, and I do not care about a pro-style offense. I want someone with timing, anticipation, and accuracy who has a history of making plays at the collegiate level.
