Last night's attendance

Announced as 13,2xx. I think it was fairly accurate.

I was thinking, the figure is cause for optimism.

But I was also thinking, there was a time where that figure for an Iowa/ISU BB game would have been cause for alarm.

However, all signs are pointing up.

gotta start somewhere. there's always optimism with a coaching change. just need to sustain that. i wonder how much optimism there will be if we only win 2-3 conference games, though.

Even if it wasn't a sellout at least there was some intensity in the building. Last season the ball being dribbled and shoes squeaking was the only sound coming out of CHA.

I was at the game and it was nice to see the attendance. It hasn't been like that in probably 4 or 5 years. Things are starting to look better and I'm finally excited about bball again.

It was Iowa State. The game two years ago had about the same crowd (although at the time Iowa had a fairly good record and there was a little optimism under Lick). However, I can't really make too much of it.

We had a crowd like that for the OSU game last year too. We were playing well at the time, people wanted to see Evan Turner, and Angerer/Moeaki/Eubanks/Stanzi were signing autographs that night.

The crowd isn't necessarily indicitive of anything, but it's always nice to get a taste of what the place is like in good times (I got on campus in 2008, so I only got to consistently see/hear an empty arena).

I think attendance will continue to slope upward.

The crowd is more enthusiastic, too. People are starting to realize we have a good coach. The players know this, too.....it shows in their play on the court.

I'm not sure what you mean by slope upward... if you mean comparing last year to this year or this ISU crowd to future games.

The crowds will be better for the Big 10 games this year compared to last but don't expect to get this big of crowd for the rest of the games this year.

I meant attendance will be gradually increasing comparing last year to this year.

It isn't going to happen overnight, but if the Hawks keep putting an entertaining product on the floor and continue to improve...the fans will return.

I think they need to stay around .500 as well. It would be a HUGE disappointment if we dont beat last years avg attendance by at least 1000.

2009 Average Home Attendance (paid) 9,550
2010 Average Home Attendance (paid) 11,021

Conference games usually see a bump of 500-1000.
I will be very happy if we can average 11,000 the entire year. Then i would like to see a 1,000 person increase every year until we consistently get 14,500-15,000.

Students and staff got into that one for free. That had a lot to do with it.

They got in free for the UNI game this year, and they didn't turn out that well. Better than usual, but hardly an inspiring effort from the student body.

I don't know anything about this year's UNI game, but I was at the OSU game last year. Everything from the Hawk's Nest and up was filled with students. There was a definite impact because of that.

Do you work in the ticket office?

Big difference between Ohio State and UNI.

Big difference between Clayborn/Stanzi/Moeaki/Angerer signing autographs and them not signing autographs, too. My point was that it wasn't the free entrance for students that packed the student section. They wanted autographs, plain and simple.
