play at Drake this afternoon at 2:00 and it's not on tv. The Hawks have strung 14 wins in a row against Drake and hopefully they'll bump it up to 15 after today. Good luck and Go Hawks!

What? We lost to those chumps? Well, as ISU says, " our hats are off to them for winning, but those guys know they aren't better than us."

Final 76-81

Terrible chippy foul calls going against Megan Gustafson. She had to sit much of the 2nd half. She still had 20 points and 12 rebounds. Ally Disterhoft finished with 24 points.
This was a tough loss, but it highlights what Iowa has to work on. The team relies on Megan to do the dirty work in rebounding and she ends up working against 2 or 3 players and gets cheap fouls called on her. The players tend to screen out rather than block out and Drake was more aggressive and got way too many offensive rebounds. They played a little tentatively on defense (except Doyle). and that got them in a hole and they didn't shoot well enough to climb out. This was a road game learning experience against a pretty good Drake team. I also thought Davis needed to look for her offense more and make Ingles work harder on defense.

Drake is a pretty strong mid-major, they are likely to go through the MVC like a hot knife through butter and end up in the NCAA, and then surprise anyone who isn't ready for them. Ingle & Wendell are good enough to play for most D1 teams, plus they have some quality size as well, even missing their 2nd leading scorer and leading rebounder as they were today. Shouldn't forget we only won by 2 at their place two years ago, and that was with Logic, Dixon & Doolittle.

Davis took 9 shots, making one, but a lot of those were late in the game. Davis, Doyle and Cera were a combined 3-17. Also, another tough day for Kastanek, 0-3 and two fouls in 2 minutes. Would guess a casual fan who knew Iowa would be playing 3 freshmen guards would have picked AK to be one of them.

On the upside I thought Stewart looked pretty good and deserving of more minutes were we not playing a 4 guard lineup. Also, we had enough gas in the tank at the end to cut it to 3 with under a minute left, we get a break or two and maybe we get to overtime. Plus only 12 turnovers, which is progress.

Whoa! I missed the game. Looking through the box score it looks like we were cold from the 3 point line. 7-23 isn't going to get it done. I think Lisa maybe missing out on not using a very good rebounder. Chase is the only big we have that actually boxes out and is a very good rebounder. I would like to see Chase used more with Megan to ease the pressure. Chase is very quick to the basket. Hannah has improved but I don't think they are using Chase to her full potential. We have 3 bigs with each one having something to bring to the game. Lisa needs to get that figured out quick before the B1G starts in a couple days. Tania doesn't shoot near enough.

Lisa said we would have our hands full with this team. Sure wish I could of seen the game. AK seems to of regressed. She's always a step behind and her shots just aren't on this year. I blame some of that on her knee surgery. Glad to hear Hannah played well. If some of those 3 pointers would of dropped probably a totally different game. 12 TO's! That's a very welcomed sign.

Judzeehawk your observations are pretty much spot on. We need Chase's defensive rebounding, but when she and Megan are out there together on offense the spacing is poor. Chase just does not feel comfortable yet driving with the ball and she's not nearly as skilled around the rim as Megan and so ball movement gets clogged up. I'm not sure what's up with Alexa she doesn't seem as quick and definitely is having to "load up" before shooting, and she's been making mental misterkes leading to turnovers. If I had my guess Coach is going to take a long look next game at players before she starts to shorten her bench. The line substitution against Drake had the 2nd unit come in and shoot 0-9. I think she'd really like Amanda to step up and join the rotation, because of her rebounding and shooting. They need to keep up the perimeter defense and then block out much more physically. The turnovers are better and they'll shoot better than they did against Drake most of the time, but they need to work on post feeds. They give up too easily and then settle a hurried perimeter shot. They are learning and have a chance to get off to a confidence building start in Big Ten play - something like 5-1.

Watching the Drake game, I kept thinking how nice it would be to have a healthy Carly Mohn to add to this mix. She would definitely help the rebounding!

I read on another site where they said after Christmas Carly would start to see some playing time. Don't know how reliable that is but that's all I've seen or heard.
