Ladell Betts to the Giants

Just saw this on Bleacher report that he's taking the Giants RB coaching gig. Can't say I'm too surprised and good for him. He's a young coach and he's done a fantastic job for us so far. He's gonna get to coach Tyrone Tracy so that's pretty cool too. I don't think we'll have a problem finding a new RB coach. So I imagine that's what KF is up to this week.

Happy for Betts, real unhappy for the Hawks. He built in my opinion one of the best rooms as a whole that Iowa's ever had with Johnson, Moulton, and Patterson.

He seemed to have a pipeline to FL for getting kids and he clearly knows how to coach RBs. It's certainly not ideal for us. The guy was damn good at the college side of it all. But if the NFL and climbing the ladder is his goal then more power to him. Off to the big city life he goes.

Only two Iowa runningback coaches that stand out to me are Ladell Betts and Carl Jackson. I really don’t remember anyone else.

With the opening, is this a way to get Marvin McCutt on the staff? I dunno, just throwing shit out there.

My first thought was Albert Young... I think he's in the coaching world somewhere I'm not sure if it's HS or where but awhile back I thought I'd seen that. But who knows KF can throw out a really wide net for a job like that.

Looks like Abert Young got a job with Wilkes (DIII school) for a year but he isn't there anymore, and now he's got his own private coaching business. Might be worth a shot.

Whoever they hire I hope it's a good one, I'd hate to see Moulton or Patterson leave town because of a position coach change.

How about moving Abdul Hodge over to RBs? I know TEs are a big part of the Iowa offense, but that position sort of recruits itself at Iowa and he's already coaching fullbacks so he's got time in the RB room to some degree.

Another thought I had is Lesters tree of contacts. He's gonna have guys he knows/has relationships with too. They won't have any shortage of candidates. It's a good gig to say the least.

My fear is that the timing is off for the Hawks, and someday Woods ends up as a head coach somewhere else, and his o-coordinator is Betts and his d-coordinator is Bell. All three of those guys seems like the real deal - uncommon coaches and leaders.

As we all know timing is everything... It would really suck if this staff started breaking off and then the following season KF retired... My pie in the sky hope would be whenever KF steps down we'd have

HC Woods
OC Lester
DC Wallace
LB Hodge
DBs recently retired Hyde
DL Bell
OL .... we'll see Barnett has grown on me a little this last yr
RBs/FBs Albert Young
TE Not sure of yet would need to put more thought into it.
STs/Nate Kaeding maybe?...
WRs McNutt

Betts deserved the promotion for sure. Its a loss, but at a position that Iowa can recruit well at given style of play. KF has a spotty coaching tree to say the least. Nice to see a guy get noticed and move up the ladder. I am sure Lester and KF will find a good replacement.
