Kyle Penniston - UW Grad Transfer TE

Silly as I think sounds I'd rather bring in a grad transfer RB as NO ONE made a real impact at that position last year.

Fair enough. I thought you were saying if he wants to come to Iowa, offer him a scholarship. Maybe that's what you are saying. I wouldn't do that before doing extensive homework on the kid.

There are a lot of highly recruited kids that don't work out in college for various reasons. Sometimes it's dedication, toughness, etc. Sometimes they're just overrated. Wisconsin and Iowa are pretty similar programs in how they're built. And he didn't do much in Madison.

Again Beyer was playing behind two potential first-round picks in his class. He still was emerging as early as last bowl prep, when he played early in the Pinstripe and was targeted in the end zone. Then he got hurt this season. Wieting also made a huge play in the Pinstripe and his a strong blocker. And these guys know the Iowa system as does Cook, who was a really good athlete in high school. Lee is a high-end recruit himself as is Miamen.

Tight end is a tough position for a GT to come in for one season and get acclimated, harder than running back.

Maybe this kid ends up being a fit, although like Guffus mentioned, Wisconsin could block him from Iowa anyway. Oklahoma blocked the QB from going to WVU before relenting.
Oh coaches would have to do their due diligence as well it's a two way street for sure. But no I wasn't just assuming this kid is a stud because 4 yrs ago he was a 4 star that he should be entitled to come just because he wants to. No no that's not how it works especially for a kid with so little tape to even evaluate. I just figured the first step was him showing an interest not the coaches to him.

GTs can be blocked too? I thought they were free and clear FAs that had no strings at all when it comes to transferring. I had no idea of that till now.

Oklahoma tried blocking the QB from going to WVU but looked foolish and hypocritical as it happened at around the same time that Jalen Hurts was transferring into Norman. So, the Sooners removed the block.

I have a tough time understanding how any kid can be 'blocked' If coaches can come and go as stringless as they can the players should too. I can see sitting out for a certain amount of time depending on the timing of when they transfer but as far as picking where they want to go.... It's a free country come on

With Iowa's pedigree with TEs they probably shouldn't be looking at grad transfer options. That's a waste of their time. If he's not good enough to play at Wisconsin, he shouldn't be good enough to play at Iowa.

They should be out recruiting the elite high school TEs in the nation.
Who was our last highly rated TE recruit? We should be able to recruit highly ranked TEs left and right, but we don't. Who do we have at TE that is going to fill the void? Nobody. At this point KF might want to look at juco or grad transfer players, but then if he does that he can't hang his hat on developing the players.

To answer your first question: I was told in this thread that Iowa got 2 really good TE prospects in this class. I see according to 24/7 the 3 TE commits Iowa got were from the 21st, 38th, & 54 ranked TEs in the class.

The answer to your second question is also in this thread. Beyer, Weiting, Cook, and a guy that used to play for Wisconsin is also available to fill the void this year. Apparently he would be the Fant role in Iowa's offense.

In this class, Logan Lee was offered by Michigan, Michigan State, Ole Miss, Wisconsin and others. He's a 4-star on 247. Josiah Miamen reported offers from Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Penn State and Wisconsin.

Do you just sit around thinking of things to bitch about when it comes to Iowa sports? If you are, you should really do some research first so you don't come off as not knowing what you're talking about.

If he is interested, sign him up offering playing time at TE at Iowa, TEU, then slip him to the defensive line when no TE time is available, let him play with a sense of rage filling in on the D-line for a season. Win/Win

Only two reasons to really bring him aboard. If he brings a copy of Wisconsins’ playbook and if he could somehow catch the winning td vs. Wiscy.

We don’t need anymore TE’s this coming year. DT and DE is where we need to spend a GT scholly to bridge the gap until Noah Shannon, Duwa, Karchinski and Hunt are ready at DT, especially.

If there is a Tyreek Hill out there somewhere, then YES, by all means. Otherwise, I think we are pretty stocked at most positions.

Fant had a good rep as a recruit. The Polish Hat, Moeaki, Hamilton. Iowa has gotten a raft of highly rated TE recruits. One of our stronger recruiting positions...

I agree. We need to keep focusing on dominant wr and dominant dt. Looks like we might have a punter now. Every other position seems to be recruited and developed well.
Fix those positions and we will be much better off.
