Kurt Warner first Iowan in NFL hall of fame

Yesterday was a long time coming for Kurt. The man forced me to cheer for the Rams and Cardinals on almost an equal basis with my Steelers. What a story. As an Iowan, every time he was successful it just felt that much more gratifying to be from this state. A great ambassador for the place we live. There is no story that is more amazing than his...you would have trouble writing that kind of stuff. I hope Hollywood does it justice. Congrats Kurt!

Way to go Kurt! Hard to believe there hasn't been an Iowan in the HOF before now.

yeah, that does not sound right. do they mean native born Iowan? There are ex Iowa Hawkeye football players in the NFL hall of fame, that I am certain of.

I wasn't sure if KW was going to get in. I thought some would hold that 3 year gap in his career against him. Glad he got in.

Compare his numbers to most RBs and you have your answer. But I agree, he is probably "worthy".

Apparently the selection committee doesn't put much weight on "firsts" since Craig was the first player to rush for over 1000 yards and receive over 1000 yards in a season. He was also the first RB to have 3 TDs in a Super Bowl.

An amazing QB to watch. I was never a fan of any of the teams he was on, but if he was on TV I always watched. What an arm that guy had.

13000 yards from scrimmage. currently 35th all time in that category. His numbers are good enough to get in.

Numbers are subjective, though. The problem is, he must not have "dazzled" enough voters. Also, what other RBs would have been in his class/range?

I completely agree he should be in. But "numbers" impress one voter, not another. 13000 yards from scrimmage is less than several RBs have rushing alone. For some reason, many voters miss the true value/worthiness of a particular player for the dumbest of reasons.

Any idea how "close" he has been in voting?

Absolutely worthy. But for every voter who sees value in his "numbers", there's a dumb voter who says, "It's the system he played in!"

When Zach Johnson gets in the Golf Hall of Fame, there will be two (2) Sports HOFers from CR Regis. THAT is unreal.

I'm surprised Reggie Roby (Waterloo native) isn't in the NFL Hall of Fame. He had a great/long career with the Dolphins.

What punter is in the hall other than Ray Guy? Punters are a hard sell and I don't really disagree to be honest with you.
