So kobe got fined today $100,000 for saying "fu&king fag*ot" to a ref last night that t'd him up. Seriously? Everyone is freaking about because it's a slur. My god, gays need to get backbones. I don't run around screaming b/c Notre Dame is called the fighting Irish. I don't b&tch about people calling someone a dirty mc or a drunken irishman. Grow up, grow a pair, and stop being a b*tch. Sorry, had to get that out there.

Sorry to interrupt your rant, but was there any mention or evidence that the fine was prompted by gays complaining about the comment?? Why don't you blame the PC league and the PC American culture in general, because that is why he was fined. It has nothing to do with gays complaining or not having backbones. Calling a ref any sort of name as inflammatory as that, whether it is b**tch or punk-*ss or whatever is going to get you fined.

The culture is the way it is because of the b*tching and moning. Players curse to refs all the time and they just get T's. Read of the lips of players. Getting fined is one thing, but 100K is f'in ridic.

But yes, the league is at fault and its retarded. Woops! Can I say retarded or is someone going to be upset? lol

No, the players don't call refs insulting names like that all the time. Yes, players may curse, but when it becomes a personal attack on the refs that is overboard. The league is struggling to keep up a certain image, especially for families, and it is not acceptable to see your marquee league player calling a ref a f@ggot on TV, hence the fine. Coaches get fined for just calling out the refs after the game in press conferences, so this is pretty much consistent with the idea that the NBA does not tolerate this. Most every other profession you would get severely reprimanded for calling a co-worker or boss a "f'in f@ggot" so why should the NBA be different?

Actually people will take offense to you calling someone retarded around here. In addition you are an absolute fool and dead *** wrong on this issue.

From the article: "He later apologized, but after catching heat from fans and gay rights group, the league dropped a big hammer to send a message."

Kobe Bryant Fined $100,000 For Using Gay Slur

"We applaud Commissioner Stern and the NBA for not only fining Bryant but for recognizing that slurs and derogatory comments have no place on the basketball court or in society at large," said Joe Solmonese, president of Human Rights Campaign -- a lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender civil rights organization. "We hope such swift and decisive action will send a strong and universal message that this kind of hateful outburst is simply inexcusable no matter what the context."

Ehh, I disagree that this is "no big deal". You call someone what Kobe did in your place of employment? Fired and your reputation destroyed.
What if that ref got called Kobe say, a stupid N.....? He would be fired and getting destroyed on every sort of medium imaginable. While I agree that gay people need to quit whining and stand up for themselves, If the roles were reversed, the so called outrage would be 100 times greater.

I don't see the problem with that. Black people just need thicker skin.

If you throw down any kind of slur, regardless of your prejudice to orientation or race, you deserve to be T'd up if not more. Are you kidding me? I really hope you guys are posers pretending to be Iowa fans.

Good Lord, tell me you are all are being ironic. Not that that covers the comments. Nothing like hating people for being who they are. That is sad.

By the way Jon, this goes into something outside of the pro sports forum. Go ahead and throw this into the racist/homophobic forum.

Funny thing is....NBA didn't do much to Kobe when he was up on charges of raping a woman.

I'm not racist or homophobic, I just hate political correctness. Also a lot of stuff athletes do during games would get other people fired. The thing is, calling someone a f*g or gay isn't saying "hey you have sex with other men", it's just a way to rip on somebody. Calling someone a dou*he is the same thing. Do you guys really think he'd be fined 100k if he would have called the ref something else? I would almost guarantee if he would have said something else it wouldn't have even been replayed. The ref obviously didn't hear it or else he would have got another T, so it was only people seeing it on TMZ that freaked, forcing the league to be swift and make an example.

So basically no one can insult anyone anymore? Name a name that you could call someone that wouldn't offend somebody. Idiot? Some dumb person is gonna go "whats he have against idiots?" You could say the same thing about any name anyone calls someone.

That's because he didn't... unless we live in a guilty until proven innocent world now.

Also, I can't stand people comparing this to calling someone a n*****. What Kobe said has absolutely zero connect to a gay person. That's like saying when you call someone a "mother f***er" you are actually calling them that... if that was the case, wouldn't that almost be a compliment? When you call someone a DB are you actually calling them that? Not at all.. you're basically just calling them an idiot/loser/someone you can't stand. Just like when a black person uses the N word to another black person, it's not the same. It doesn't have the same meaning as when a white person would say it to a black person, and it's quite obvious to any remotely sane person.. but the PC world we live in has to cry over every little thing.

Wow, beat me to it with the exact same thoughts..

Being offended when someone calls someone else a f a g g o t isn't being politically correct, it's being human. It may be a way to "rip on somebody" but it's also a way to put down an entire group of people. And and at the risk of being redundant, the fact you don't understand that only reinforces the the fact you are at the very least a fool.

Is this serious? how about not calling people any names instead of trying to figure out what can and cannot be said. don't defend kobe. what he did was childish and completely inappropriate. kudos to the league for taking a stand on something like this. these guys think they are above reproach. he deserved this.

It's right there. It's just like you said. It's the way you "rip" on somebody. I could try to say more and quote what you said, but it's all right there. In those first 2 sentences, it's what is called being prejudiced is.
