Kirksey gettin' paid

Christian Kirksey signed a 4 year, $38 million extension with the Browns, with $20 million guaranteed. Great for him! Could stay inside, but new DC Gregg Williams said he likes his college tape and may move him back outside as they switch to some 4-3.

Huh, good for him.

I have to confess, I did not see this coming when Kirksey was still playing for Iowa. A good example for young Hawkeyes to follow.

I'll say he got paid that's awesome for him.. I saw him play some last year against Miami and their TE kinda got the best of him a couple times. If your LB on a bad team you'll be on the field a ton with lots of opportunities for tackles. Good LBs on good defenses are forcing 3 and outs a lot hence less tackles/stats.

Often, the LB position that Kirsey played at Iowa does on all the dirty work and plays in space, but you could tell he was going to be good at the next level. He just had that body...strong, lean, and fast. He could close gaps on just about anyone. He made a few plays against LSU in that bowl game that were truly amazing...against top flight competition too. Good for him...one of my favorite LBs at Iowa.

Who you got? Edds/Angerer/Hunter or Hitchens/Kirksey/Morris? I am not talking about a fist fight based on what I know about Angerer that's a no brainer. Edds/Angerer/Hunter were better on a collegiate level, Hitchens/kirksey/Morris are better on a pro level. Which were a better set of linebackers?

Dude's a fantastic athlete for a linebacker, and the fact that he earned this after playing out of position as a 3-4 ILB only proves how good he is. He'll only get better as the Browns transition to the 4-3.

Hmm... it's a good question. I like Angerer over Morris. I like Hitchens a tad more than Edds and Kirksey over Hunter. How they played as a group the latter 3 may have had more stats and NFL playing time so I guess I'd lean that way. Greenway, Hodge and Lewis weren't half bad either while in college either...

I was thinking something similar. Angerer over Morris, Edds/Hitchens is a wash for me and Kirksey over Hunter.

For me, the gap between Kirksey over Hunter is larger than the gap than Angerer over Morris so I would give the edge to the trio of Morris, Hitchens and Kirksey.

I'm right there with ya. I think the current group next yr shouldn't be bad either. If the secondary can hold up their end of the bargain defense shouldn't be what holds them back from having a good year.
