For answering the phone or returning texts? If that's all it was then I don't think players get in trouble for that type of contact.

This whole thing is laughable. (1) in the age of NIL how does a coach illegally recruit a player when money is being handed out by everyone left and right (2) the NCAA did absolutely nothing to Michigan prior to Harbaugh already leaving the program and now Kirk get's a 1 game suspension to show that cheating will not be tolerated under the NCAA's watch. Sorry but the NCAA is an absolute joke and this plays right into the shit show they've created.

No doubt. Wonder how many violations they've over looked before and after they put their foot down. About time someone put a halt to the rule breaking going on in Iowa City and nowhere else. This will scare straight all the other programs out there and integrity will once again return to the sport of college football.
Again, the only way this is ultimately solved is a draft. Players then are under contract. They can be traded at any time. Let's say that after two regular seasons, they can become a free agent, allowing them to play in a bowl game for another team after their second full regular season. Or, they may go free agent AFTER the bowl season following their second year, if their previous year was a redshirt season.
Of course, this all only works if the universities subcontract out their football programs. Allowing Stan Kroenke to 'buy' OSU football for say, $15 million a season. He assumes all costs including player "name, image, and likeness contributions"...you know....salary. But gets to keep any earnings over that $15 million.
This is definitely how college football should work. Totally will help capture the spirit of collegiate sport that's made it so successful up to now.
