Kirk summed up his philosophy and era

In his presser when basically asked if he wants to win championships..."the years we have won it things really have to fall right"

He doesn't expect to win, he hopes that the opponents fail to win.

It has always been this way and why he loses 9 times to ISU, slips by Arkansas State, every directional school and comes from behind against Ball St.

I have been done with Ferentz for years. It hurts me because I like the guy and want the Hawks to be successful.

I think you have hit on something here.

To me, it reads 'To win the Big Ten at Iowa, we have to be lucky and get all of the bounces'

I guarantee you they don't think that at Wisconsin. And I don't believe that. I do admit that it's hard to win the Big Ten title at Iowa...or historically has been. But winning the Big Ten is now 'easier' for Iowa than it used to be, given the divisional lineup. Some years will be tougher than others given the very unbalanced schedules

I have been lamenting this for a few years, now. Coach doesn't go out and "take it" he allows it to develop and if it happens, it happens. From 2002-04, Iowa went out and took it. I am at a loss as to what happened after that.

Iowa got lucky in those years, and 09. They didn't know that would happen, they weren't expecting that to happen, it just did. He got really lucky on some no name recruits that turned out to be ridiculously good. That's all that happened.

True mentality of a champion there. Gable used to always rely on hope and luck, too. That's why he won all those titles.

Wait, what?

His comment about playing CJ was, and is a joke.

I I don't know what that kid did to deserve such grumpiness from his coach, but I'm not sure I've seen KF speak this way about a player since DJK

Were there comments from coach specifically about CJ, after the game? If so, I've missed them. Can you post them, please?

The only time I can remember hearing an Iowa coach mention wanting the National Title was when Greg Davis was hired. Ferentz probably spit out his coffee when he heard that from Greg..or swallowed his gum

No, they don't need to fall into place. You need to have a better plan of attack. Plain and simple. Wisky seems to have things fall into place a whole lot more and with three different coaches. It starts by recruiting better players (think Melvin Gordon). You then implement a coaching philosophy that intends on winning at all costs. We do neither of these things. We play to the best of our talent and ability and it's the coaches that put us in position to play not to win. That's on the coaches and you clearly aren't going to teach that old dog any new tricks at this point.

With statements like that, KF is basically telling GB that he does not have what it takes to be Iowa's coach anymore. If Iowa must depend on breaks and mistakes by the opponent to win games, he has effectively thrown in the towel. If you take him at his word that is what he is saying, but I really believe he's only giving himself an excuse for his lackluster coaching and game management. Either way, it does not bode well for Iowa football.

He really just doesn't care

Q. With Jake's performance last week, he was excellent the second half, this week a little sketchier, what did you feel like you got out of your quarterback this year, and what's kind of right now the balance between CJ and Jake?

KIRK FERENTZ: You know, Jake is our starter, CJ is a great No. 2. I've said that, and just like football ebbs and flows, and it's the same way with individuals' performances at all positions. Quarterbacks get scrutinized because they're quarterbacks, but most players have ups and downs and have bad plays and what have you, and Jake certainly has had a few, too. But I thought he played really well, and I could go down the list. We had a lot of guys really play well.

Q. Was there any consideration of putting CJ in?

KIRK FERENTZ: Today?

Q. Yeah.

KIRK FERENTZ: Not that I'm aware of. We never talked about it.

aka, "That's football". It seems completely contrary to his mantra about "execution" is what wins football games. Maddening when he says stuff like this in his press conferences. It's such a cop out, like it's out of his control in the end. What, does he and Davis consult the magic 8 ball before games, Will the stretch play to the short side of the field with Weisman work today? Shake, shake, shake. "All signs point to yes".

That right there says a lot. "We never talked about it". That confirms kf is so calculated that he has to have a planned gameplan and if a player was not discussed prior to would not have an opportunity. Its nauseating how kf can' t do on the fly in game adjustments. Its like an OCD controll thing. The coach doesn't handle adversity well at all.

I think KF simply doesn't have the skill set to make decisions on the fly. Unless it's planned out during the week it doesnt happen on the football field on Gameday.

This is evidenced by his terrible clock management and personnel decisions. The last 2 minutes of each half are incredibly fluid and cannot be scripted. These are college kids not pros and if they are having a bad day they need to sit in favor of someone else.
