Kirk sending a message?

It seemed very unusual when Kirk went for the last touchdown rather than a field goal and ran a play on the last offensive possession with just 15 seconds left. Was that a message to Nebraska's AD for his comment a couple years ago about Iowa? It was definitely very in-Kirk like.

Actually go look back to Iowa's end of the year games against Minnesota. It was very Kirk like for a senior day/rivalry game with bowl positioning on the line.

I thought along the same lines. I was surprised KF didn't call for kneel downs through 4th down to prevent the score and uphold 'sportsmanship' but then I realized the touchdown was a reward to the senior Daniels. Would KF have called a pass play from the 1 to reward the senior Kittle?..now that would've been shocking...maybe even Davis-like?

I think it was just smart coaching to keep the clock going running the ball rather than taking the 3 points. Also it's good to get the young guys as many plays as possible. I would not consider running the ball again and again to be running up the score.

Smart coaching? Be careful, you will get roasted on here for saying the Kirk did some smart coaching. I totally approve of what Kirk did. It just seemed a little out of character.

Speaking of trick plays and knees the end of the first half would have been perfect for one.

They took a knee with about 30 seconds left on 1st down Nebraska had no timeouts. The trick would be that the entire first team would start running towards the locker room tunnel. When they all get off the field run the second team offense on. Snap the ball and just hand it to the running back. Run the play against no defense, or at least a defense than is not set. It's a good chance to get an easy touchdown.

I don't see how that would work. Iowa would need to tell everyone on the sideline about it (even non-team members) for this to be executed to perfection. Even then the refs would probably stop the game and we would be flagged for some obscure infraction.

Personally, I've always felt they should run some running play with Wadley out there and see if he can break one loose in that situation.

Run the play in practice so that the people on the sideline know what to do and how to avoid infractions such as stepping on to the field on the way out. I think the coaches would all have to stop before leaving the coaching box, but I'm sure they could work it all out.

Couldn't happen. In case you haven't noticed the officials won't allow a team to snap the ball after substitutions until the defense has a chance to also substitute.

I think he was sending a message, but more like he was blinking in morse code something like HOW YOU LIKE ME NOW ENO or something like that.

There was too much time for a kneel-down to run out the clock on 3rd down, so you have a choice: either run on 3rd down and possibly score a TD, or kneel down on 3rd and 4th down and turn the ball over on downs to NU with still a few seconds on the clock.

I'm a big sportsmanship kind of guy, but scenario #2 is taking things to an extreme. If you can't kneel down and end the game on 3rd down, then you run a running play between the tackles--and if you score, that's life. Big difference between doing that vs throwing long on that 3rd down play, IMO.

I think a play that would work better, and be allowed by the refs, would be to go in victory kneel-down formation at the end of a half, and then pass out of it. If a receiver on one of the ends gets free downfield (and he likely would), then you would have an easy score. But the QB has to really sell the apathy and nonchalance of a routine run-out-the-clock play, and then very quickly take the snap and pull back from center to make his throw before the defense realizes he's not going to kneel down.

Still, I think it might work.

Kirk change. Doubtful. Did CJ change something? More likely. What's K F going to do on senior day?
