Kirk on the Side for 11/8

I don't want him focused on anything but the game so his answer is what I want to hear. Who cares what he thinks about the PSU thing, he is paid to coach and coach very well, not give his opinion on a matter that has nothing to do with us winning our next game.

Yeah, you are probably right. This entire Penn State fiasco really has me steamed. I wish some coach in America would stand up to the legend and tell Paternal that him covering this up was wrong.

So,Jon,if the grand jury testimony was the final word, why isn't Sandusky in prison right now? Because the grand jury report is not a court of law, that is why.

Simply asking for a full investigation that includes police questioning of the suspect to try to develop all the facts before jumping in and drawing conclusions is wrong for what reason? This is a heinous crime,if true, and everyone is disgusted by it,but it does not mean that we throw away all rules of law and just start lynching everyone in sight.

I have heard Bernstine on B & B today call for every single person in the whole PSU athletic dept be fired today....you with him on that? Every single football-related person fired today? It seems like some folks just seem to want to have immediate justice here, screw letting an investigation...just grab the rope.

I,for one, am glad that KF is smart enough to not comment. Nothing to be gained by it.

There is a 23 page Grand Jury Testimony, man. For those who don't know, when you testify before a Grand Jury, you swear to tell the truth. If you don't, you can go to jail for committing perjury.

McQueary swore under oath that he saw Sandusky in a sex act with a boy-minor in the PSU shower on 3/1/2002. He swore under oath that he told Paterno about it the next day. Paterno swore under oath that he told the AD about it on 3/4/2002. The AD swore under oath that about a week and a half later he interviewed McQueary. The AD swore under oath that two weeks after that, he told McQueary that they had taken Sandusky's locker room key from him, and informed the Second Mile Foundation of this allegation...the very organization founded by Sandusky and that Sandusky used to lure his victims.

None of those involved ever contacted even the campus police.

I am sure PSU has had 'kids days' since then at the old ball park...while they remained quiet on the child rapist in their midst for these past 8 years, years where he had been continuing to rape other boys.

What the heck more do you want? This is one of the biggest failings of children I can recall.
I agree with JM. These crazy people saying they don't want to see a rush to judgment make me sick. 13 years (98 is when this came to light) is NOT a rush. In fact judgment wasn't rushed, it was ridiculously delayed. Anyone who says they "want the facts to come out" must be a pedophile or a pedophile sympathizer.

Does anyone else think the "On the side" portion of these pressers have become virtually meaningless? Back about five years ago or so there was ususally some good info came out of them. I cannot believe there some Iowa sites that still consider this info "premium" content.

Alex, I agree completely. I don't understand how anybody would want to wait for any more "facts" to come out or listen to Joe Pa's version. Joe Pa's version will be some drawn up, legally appropriate, cover your a$$ statement written by lawyers. Do these people think there is any chance Joe Pa comes out and says, "Yes, I was notified about these several incidents, and I reported them to my superiors and I thought that was good enough." Which he will then be asked the question "Why didn't you go to police and why did you keep this guy around the football program?" What is he going to say to answer that that will make people change their mind about him? That is right, nothing.
I don't need any more facts to come out. The fact that this guy was allowed to stay on campus, bring kids on campus, on trips, to hotels, continue to work with this CHILDRENS foundation after someone reported that he showered with little boys in 1999 in simply attrocious. The 2002 incident is just the straw that broke the camel's back. And then you let that incident go unreported and allow the guy to stay on campus but just not bring kids around? C'mon people.
People need to stop sticking up for this guy. He is a coaching legend, but this incident goes so far beyond coaching that I don't even care what he has to say. His stupid little ceremony outside of his house last night made this worse. I do not want to see this guy coaching ever again.

I actually appreciated that this morning when I heard comments from virtually all the other B1G coaches that KF was not among them. Shows he is taking his soon to be roll as the Dean of B1G coaches seriously.

I also thought that was notable. They had quotes from Dantonio, Zook, Kill, and Hoke that I can remember. Most of the quotes were something to the effect of, "Paterno seems to be an honorable man." The fact that Ferentz did not offer such a quote is telling.

Yes and as I pointed out earlier in this thread the other coaches in the BT are morons for saying anything other than what KF did.

Some people don't like that KF gives the press the same old answers it's cases like this that show why that is the right thing to do.

Jon, these guys don't get it. There were a host of B1G coaches offering their opinion on what a swell guy Joe Pa is last night. KF was not amongst them. Why?

I'll tell you people why: Because Kirk Ferentz, father of sons, is F'n disgusted. He's not withholding comment because he "wants to let the facts play out," he's withholding comment because he's disgusted. You could see it in his face.

And it makes me like him even more.

Head coaches from around the Big Ten reacted to the sex-abuse scandal surrounding the Penn State football program during the conference's weekly teleconference on Tuesday. The coaches all declined to speak on the controversy itself, but most expressed admiration for 46th-year Nittany Lion head coach Joe Paterno.

A scandal involving the alleged sexual abuse of young boys by former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky has forced out two of the school's top officials, including the athletics director. The New York Times reported Tuesday Penn State University officials were planning for Paterno's exit, "perhaps within days or weeks," after the coach has come under criticism for failing to alert police when told of the abuse.

The university canceled Paterno's weekly press conference on Tuesday, and he did not appear for his interview session on the teleconference.

Illinois head coach Ron Zook called the situation "shocking," but he praised Paterno's character.

"Anybody who knows Coach Paterno knows he's a great person," Zook said. "What he has done for college football is just phenomenal. I think he's one of the top two or three guys in the history of college football. I don't know the situation or what happened, but you hate to see anything like that happen to a man like Coach Paterno."

Several Big Ten coaches echoed that, including Michigan State's Mark Dantonio.

"I'm not qualified to speak on the situation, but in regards to Coach Paterno, he has been an outstanding role model for college football," Dantonio said. "He has seen this game change in the course of 50 years, and somehow, some way, has kept pace with that change and excelled throughout his career. That longevity speaks volumes in terms of the man."

Ohio State interim head coach Luke Fickell is in charge of another program that has dealt with scandal and controversy this year. The Buckeyes have had numerous players suspended, and they lost quarterback Terrelle Pryor and head coach Jim Tressel because of NCAA violations.

Fickell shared some advice for whoever coaches Penn State past this scandal, whether it's Paterno or somebody else.

"It starts with leadership," Fickell said. "You've got to show confidence in what you're doing and make sure that your actions speak loudly. And if you want [players] to act or live life a certain way, they need to see you do it. You've got to make sure you can move forward."

Nebraska coach Bo Pelini said Paterno "seems like a class act." Wisconsin's Bret Bielema expressed concern for the alleged victims of the abuse, hoping "everyone there protects them and looks out for their best interests."

Northwestern's Pat Fitzgerald had only one thought on the controversy.

"I'm not going to go into anything other than [saying] it's sad," he said. "It's really sad."]

Class act? Outstanding role model? F that. He's an arrogant, self-centered delusional SOB who's name is gonna be dirt.

F U Joe Pa, you child rapist coddler.

So your saying everyone including myself is a pedophile because we are looking for more information to the snippets of opinion and paraphrased jury notes running wild on a message board. So you are calling me a child molester? Is that right?

Either that, or you're a pedophile sympathizer.

Seriously though, JoePa did what was required by law for him to do, at the bare minimum. He didn't do nearly enough, because after reading through all of the jury reports, etc., it seems that either JoePa was trying to just sweep the whole issue under the rug or is senile as sh*t. I tend to lean towards the belief that he was just trying to sweep the whole issue under the rug, hoping that it would either go away or just not surface again. Very sad handling of the situation by him and many others.

I think you care more about an 84yr old man who has led a life of privilege over that of abused children. Your sacred cow has been slain and for good reason. He knew as far back as 98 and cared more about his friend of 32 yrs than he did the kids who were at risk. JoePa got what he deserved. He should've been removed years ago. Anyone defending him has their priorities all screwed up.
