Not to pee in the cheerios, but they went to a 12 game schedule in 2006, there were not conference championship games, and back in the day there were like 6 bowls. Now there are 50. So, KF has had probably like 25 more game opportunities than Woody. Still, that is not my focus. Woody Hays is a coaching icon. To pass him is amazing. And honestly, its a record that is unlikely to be broken. No one stays at the same place for 25 years anymore.

Kirk has the losing record pretty much wrapped up at 124 or any other future number. Fitz Patgerald is second with 101 losses. Stagg has 95 losses.

What's impressive about this is Ferentz's staying power. He's way the hell down the list in winning percentage (.630 at Iowa).

It's still impressive, don't get me wrong, but this is about his longevity...not winning games.

It is an odd stat indeed. KF will be a HOFer, but really, they need a separate thing called the Hall of Above Average with Longevity.
