Kirk Ferentz: Venting with Disclaimer

It goes both ways SLarew - it's not just exploiting the oppositions weaknesses, it's knowing how they plan to exploit yours, and having a contingency in place for when they do.

I love the game and the Hawks as much as the next guy. With that said, please back off the ledge. We've had a few injuries, bad play calling and a little clock mis-management. Just enjoy watching a pretty good team! That's what we are...pretty good. Not amazing, not top 5, not National championship caliber... We're a pretty good team that is looking for 9 wins and a top 20/15 finish. ENJOY THE GAME... DON'T LIVE AND DIE BY IT.

Another question: are you happy with an 8-4 record?

I bet Iowa State or Texas fans would take an 8-4 season at this point. If you think Iowa is going to go 10-2 or 11-1 every season from here on out, you, my friend, have some very frustrating years ahead of you.

I don't buy KF doesn't look at film or prepare for opponents. They took care of some bowl opponents, like Geo Tech with time to prepare. He has won his share of big games. Still, this year, the team just looked odd at times. Not sure why, but life is full of ups and downs. This team has really been affected by stuff right from time of losing Wegher / Hampton. Maybe they have to learn how to prepare for the weekly toll like a top 10 team, not sure.

I like KF. I think he is a fine coach but I am very frustrated because the same mistakes keep haunting us. Poor clock management, quarterbacks not improving, the inability to adjust to a spread offense and taking the ball first to start the game when you are so conservative in your play calling.

What makes all of this so frustrating is these are really obvious issues but Iowa seems to take the same approach to solving them. KF has no real pressure to change anything he does, so my hope is KF takes a long look at the state of the program and makes some tune ups.
