Kirk Ferentz stands atop his peers

But it's a list he probably would not like to be atop of:

Iowa's Kirk Ferentz tops Coaches Hot Seat list

The accompanying commentary is devastating; HN's mods don't like quoting much from the CHS blog but this part of it stood out and I hope Jon will allow it here for the purposes of discussion. When you have national blogs taking this sort of shot at your football program, it ought to make supporters sit up and take notice:

"Here’s the thing though that the $4 Million Dollar Man…Kirk Ferentz…has working in his favor:

The Good People of the Great State of Iowa will just sit on their hands and accept mediocre football because the TRUTH is there is NO one in the state of Iowa that attends or watches Iowa football games that has the GUTS to stand up and say what anyone with a lick of common sense in the rest of America would have said a ****uva long time ago:

Mediocre football at Iowa is unacceptable.

Uhhhhh….YES IT IS!

Be proud fans of Iowa football!

You have sat on your hands and said nothing and guess what…

You now have WORSE than Mediocre Football!

Some comments from the article that really hurt to read........"1. Kirk Ferentz, Iowa – Since the $4 Million Dollar Man’s…Kirk Ferentz….Iowa football team beat Indiana on November 6, 2010 in Bloomington, IN the $4 Million Dollar Man’s….Kirk Ferentz…records at Iowa are…
Overall: 12 – 18
Big Ten: 6 – 13
…and in case anyone is counting the Hawkeyes loss to Northern Illinois on Saturday was Iowa’s…
7 th Straight Loss!
….going back to the end of the 2012 season." AND "Kirk Ferentz….signed that contract his Iowa football team have put up the following records:
Overall: 19 – 20
Big Ten: 10 – 14
…and among those 19 wins over the past three plus seasons are wins over powerhouses like…
I-AA (FCS) Northern Iowa
Northern Illinois
I-AA (FCS) Tennessee Tech
La. Monroe
I-AA (FCS) E. Illinois
Ball State"

Guys, go back to the opening week of 2006. So even including Iowa's miracle run and not just the tire fire that started after the Indiana game in 2010.

Kurt Ferentz: 51-39
Patty Fitz: 51-39

This program in 7+ years has fallen to Northwestern levels.

Importedankles23 get in here and remind these dum dums how many top 10 finishes Kirk has.

Just one of those Top 10 finishes was since 2004. This stat can be skewed just as easily as any stats that may have been presented in this article.

Ferentz did an incredible job with this program his first half dozen years or so.. Since then, it clearly has not been the same, other than the second half of 2008, and 2009.

I love how some of you keep trying to bang the drum louder and louder but guess what? IT DOESN'T ******* MATTER! Most here think he's doing a ****** job. We don't need some website to tell us that. But Kirk's not going anywhere. He could go 0-12 and he will still be the coach at least next season. If you want him gone, call the big donors and start passing around a collection jar. You guys get $10 mil, maybe the university will cover the rest. Until then, keep screaming until your lungs collapse. It won't change anything.

No one (or atleast no one should be) is saying KF doesn't deserve to be on the hot seat and especially at the top of it due to his salary and results over the past 3 seasons, now starting 4. However, there is a difference between arguing that he deserves to be at the top of the list and if he sit is actually hot from a perspective of whether not he would actually get fired for a sub .500 due to his contract and payout.

I guess I just don't understand why there seems to be so much joy coming from the fans who dislike KF when things like this come out. He is going to be the coach this season and probably next season as well whether he deserves to be or not.

Everyone gets it, KF is overpaid and no one should except it but what is anyone here actually going to do about it besides start yet another pointless thread beating the same dead horse that has been going on for the past 3-4 years.

There is nothing left of the horse except some hair and broken fragments.

I'm sure there is still enough left for some people to make glue.

I'm sure in the "how to be an AD" workshops held around the world, the saga of KF's contract is a case study.

I actually think this specific "article" answers this question. I think the reason people who don't like KF trumpet it so loud is because they don't want it to be "good ole Iowa fans" anymore. Any and everyone knows that until there is a great outcry for him to leave and it hits their wallets, he's staying. I would bet that while more emotional, over the top, and downright annoying many of the people on here can be, people who post on here are more in tune as to what is going on with the team, the overall numbers and so forth. Most people just go to the games and have a good time and it ends there, which is great. If some of those people start having these stats brought to light and realizing that this program is very vulnerable right now to reaching levels unseen for 15 years it could change that 75% Freed keeps talking about to 50%. That's just my opinion and what I've encountered talking to other fans. It's quite amazing how smart some fans think I am because I can predict what KF is going to do before it happens. The fact of the matter is I just pay attention more than they do. When you start spouting off stats and what's going on, they actually listen. Again, just my personal opinion and experience.

Again, I just can't undertand why people are ok with this mediocrity, given the historic tradition of championships and excellence since 1889.

Since 1889 (124 years). Overall win percentage is darn near .531. BUT....I say to hell with historical data. We should not be putting up with anything less than 9 win seasons an being in the conversation for the division, then B1G title.

KF is only around .575 win percentage and is trending down, the game has passed him by, he doesn't play the best players, he's holding this university hostage, he is trying to take over with nepotism...and(any other subjective negative you can think of).

Cripes on a Crutch...your in the minority, and i'm sorry...it's likely quite a bit smaller than 25%....much smaller...sorry.

Now some with call me a "chugger, apologist, defender of mediocrity, sheep, and a bunch of other things"...but I will continue to support the Team, The Staff, and the Players. For THE THOUSANDTH TIME, THIS does NOT mean if think KF and his staff is beyond reproach...Nor Does Anyone with a fricken brain. He's not perfect, has shown deficiency is clock management. I'll say it yet again for the peanut gallery who can't get over it, he's going to be our coach at least for the next two years, there is point blank evidence he can turn it around - he's done it before.

Again, there are criticisms to be had. But many quoted on here as FACT, are anything but.

come at me...i could give a rip.

Well, with it being a national blog and all....forget my last post.

we really are screwed. I mean, c'mon, a NATIONAL BLOG is ripping us as a State and as a people no less.

fire him now.

bounce.

124 years? So we shouldn't ever expect more or evolve? Are you amish?

You can expect more all you want. I personally would love to be a perrenial power or even a perrenial 8-9 win team, but were not, have never been. Maybe we will some day,

It's not a lil' ol' Iowa defense....it's fact, it's data, it's history....

True, me too. I knew you weren't amish...unless yer out in the barn.

Ah, trotting out the "we are just li'l ole Iowa, what do you expect" excuse. A classic!

Ah, the classic retort...only it doesn't apply here. My post is simply laying out that "some" constantly state how underperforming the staff is (and even when partially agreed with, namely with too many losses to 10 point underdogs-which has been an issue, no doubt, and one of the things completely justified in lambasting KF on) But if you going to use W/L as the overall barometer....history would state he is in line with the average.

Hell, we all want more wins, less losses(especially to seemingly far inferior teams).

It just gets old when where is literally Zero data to support that we are anything more than an above average program, that can certainly have stretches of success, but will most certainly have stretches of struggles.

All this "Demand more and we will get it" is talking points, and goes against facts and logic.

That said, hope we can see an uptrend and overall, I think we saw improvement in a lot of facets on Saturday.

please continue though....
