Kirk Ferentz.....High Praise

“Iowa’s Kirk Ferentz is one of the best football coaches at any level, and I don’t just say that because of the 55-24 wipeout of Ohio State. Parents who have high school prospects should want to send their kids to play for Ferentz, and not just for the winning. He wins, he loses, he develops people.”

Peter King on Kirk Ferentz

Look, its easy to take one side or the other on the argument, as most know I think coach is about as Iowa strong and proud as anyone could hope for. He stands for all that is good about being a great human being and going to work. Being a man of principles and sticking to your guns is about as hard to do as anything in this day and age. Coach has never waivered. Thank you coach for guiding the Hawks to one of the best Hawkeye wins that Ive ever seen and for being a great role model for our state and the young men that you coach. I love it, i love it, i love it!

He's one of the best in the game and I'm glad he's ours. The only thing he hasn't done at Iowa is win a National Title. He's a sure fire HOF coach - roaming the sidelines for the team we all cheer for. He will leave Iowa as it's all time leader in wins, one of the B1G leaders in wins in conference, leader of the program in top 10 finishes, NCOY awards, big time bowl games, you name it, he'll own it. He has made Iowa respectable for just about every season he's coached here. He's made Iowa's floor in 16 out of 19 seasons a bowl game. That's incredible and why I've never been one to wish it away. I'll ride as long as he wants - and when he's done, I'll support who's next cause I am an Iowa fan. Go Hawks

I beat the hell out of him every week. Its a love hate relationship I guess. Would I like to see knew stuff and ideas? Yes. But its comforting to know we have something that is consistent and competitive which a lot of programs don't have and KF is responsible for that. I'd rather that then a revolving coaching door every three to four years.

I haven't always agreed with the game day decisions, clock management (much better over recent years), and the conservative nature of his offensive teams...but I love the way his teams play. They are always well prepared mentally, they play physical, they will always give 100% effort, and they will always handle adversity. They also win and lose with class.

I think he's made improvements in recruiting also which bodes well for the future. When you think about it, he's also brought Brian along the right way. 5 years under Greg Davis (who won a NC) and forced him to earn his stripes before giving him the OC. I know alot of people haven't thought the offense was improved...but I like where BF is headed. He's just got a really, really young group on the field right now on offense. I think Saturday was a glimpse into the future.

What Peter King writes is true, but that alone doesn't carry the day. While it should, it doesn't. You need the bright sparkly baubles to attract high school kids. Iowa has that in place, and I think it's showing itself. It seems like the recruiting level is picking up, probably in part due to that. Also, while Kirk is never going to transformationally change, there may be some ideas of the younger staff seeping into the game plan. Good guy, top drawer facilities, better players, and some elements of more aggressive play calling could be a recipe for some good days ahead for Iowa football. I'm in, but then, I'm always in.

I've been very critical of KF as well. I know he's a good person and not a bad coach, but his style of play has been increasingly boring as the years go by.

With that said, things could very easily be much worse. I'll continue to complain if they keep running the ball into a brick wall though.

But I'm happy Iowa is not Nebraska or several other programs that change coaches every couple years because they think more highly of their program than they should.

I have said it before and will say it again. Let BF call what he wants and I believe the overall results will be positive.

Nothing new here, but, I'm a KF supporter based upon what I've seen at other institutions.....Nebraska, Florida, Illinois, Minnesota, Iowa State, Michigan, Purdue...etc. Lots of "we must make a change for change sake" or "there must be a national championship guy out there"...and what happened....flux, multiple losing seasons, player disgruntlement, program decline. Hell, even Urban has only won one B1G championship in his time at OSU.

Is 8-4 better than what's listed above? In my book, yes.

I agree! Being a respected program that is not a pushover counts for something and being in every game win or lose.
National championships to me is a reach and the bias for the upper echelon teams from the pundits just frustrates me anyway. They complain when there is no competition within the divisions and then beat a whole conference down when there is. Just put Bama, Clemson, Oki and Ohio State in the playoffs every year and leave the rest of us alone.

Please pay attention to what is happening in Lincoln, Nebraska right now. They have a great fan base, just like we do, but everything is in full meltdown mode. They are about to fire ANOTHER coach. Iowa's consistency under Ferentz should not be taken for granted.

I just hope we continue to pass on first down with the two tight end sets. It is working!!!

We're relevant. We don't suck. We're respected by those that matter.

When KF retires and 10 years pass, will we as a fan base be able to look back and say it was a worthwhile 20 years with KF? I think, I know, the answer will be yes.

Telling you guys. OSU is not a great football team.

Why is it so hard to look at KF objectively?

Which game strategy wkll show up Saturday. No one knows. Coaches hsve gone years not expecting KF to scratch the itch. If we try and out Wisky Wisky we wont win.

If he uses the skills of his players and reacts to Wisky this will be a solid W.

I believed Iowa would do well last week. I believe either Iowa style could show up this week.

I like this kind of stuff for recruiting...ntnl tv audience saw cool unis...guys like jewell and jackson making 1st team all american plays...stanley looking like a big time qb...wadleys athleticism...great crowd and atmosphere...kinnick stadium legend...frosh contributions...all good things!

Although the coach of the school just west of here is doing a nice job, they do get the same level of recruits. But he is selling a winning culture very early over there. I think that enthusiasm is what some people want. I like Kf style

OH?

Good points above, and I would add that one of the things I like most about Kirk is that he has been able to avoid a lot of scandals that other programs are going through, and the times where he has had scandals (think City Boyz) he has dealt with it effectively and promptly.

In the last 10 years, the biggest scandal for the program was the rhabdo scandal where he worked his players too hard. It sucked, and I think they learned from it. But all things considered, I'd rather have a scandal for working too hard than cheating on academics, recruiting, or sexual assaults. That Kirk has been able to steer clear of those icebergs while still maintaining a high level of competitiveness in this day and age is a remarkable achievement in and of itself.

If I am a parent of prospect, I take a good hard look at Iowa. You've got as good of a chance at making it in the pros here as anywhere, it's among the cleanest programs in the country, and you're still going to be competitive with 90% of the programs.

The Rhabdo wasn't big and why did you miss the sexual assault?
