Kirk and Mary Ferentz Donate $500,000

I don't know the exact numbers, but that's about 1/6 of his annual salary. Speaks to both Kirk and Mary's true character. It doesn't matter how much money you make. Figure out what a sixth of your own salary is and imagine donating that amount to something... pretty impressive when anyone is willing to do that.

To be fair it absolutely matters how much money you make. Donating $500,000 of $3,750,000 salary is a lot easier to handle in a budget than a family making $100,000 and donating $17,000 to a wonderful charity. Just like donating that % of $100,000 is much easier to budget than a family making $60,000 and donating $10,000.

The person making nearly 4 million still has a hell of lot left over. They could donate 3/4 of their annual salary and still have a hell of a lot of money left over.

That being said, its still a very, very generous donation. I wonder how many national writers will be putting that in their columns this week.

I might question Kirk's coaching quite often here lately, but I'll always have an appreciation for the good he has done for the state and the university, and the long term good of the football program.

First off, I'm a ferentz supporter but in my opinion this should have absolutely no bearing in your approval/disapproval of him as a head football coach.

It's great that he does this but if a sales professional who does a lot of community service isn't making quota, you don't keep him around.

In comparison ferentz is paid to win football games and get people in the seats. Both of which I'm satisfied at the job he has done and continues to do but this has nothing to do with his job.

I'm not trying to take away from the contribution but just think it's septet ate from his duties as a head fun coach and this is coming from a self labeled "ferentz supporter."
