Kirk and Barta

Anybody that thinks that the goal is to win 7 games and go to mid-level bowls every year has lost their marbles. If we had the ability to compete for titles every year, what could possibly be gained by purposely settling for mediocre. Give me a break!

This is absolutely horrid to watch right now, and if you think that any Hawkeye fan, including those at the top are enjoying it... you're just nuts.

That's the mentality KF has brainwashed the Iowa fanbase into. The ol "were just Iowa" talk. There isn't another coach in the country that has the attitude of Kirk Ferentz.

You may be right, but nothing really changed. Yeah we might see some spread sets on offense, but when it comes right down to it, they go conservative and run the ball just like years past. That is all on KF. He made it look like a staff shake up like he was going in a new direction, but nothing changed. That is my assessment anyway. IF my original comment is so ridiculous, then in your opinion, what has changed so drastically since the coaching shake up? I think most were excited because a change happened, but in the end, nothing has happened.

2013 happened (somehow anyway). I agree right now, the shake didn't do anything except Iowa had a good season last year. But I honestly believe if KOK was still here Iowa would have averaged at least as many wins from 2012 through now. Maybe 2012 wouldn't have been so low but last season might not have been as high but right now iowa would still be in the same boat.

I just didn't like the wa a you implied the staff shake up was only to buy Kirk time, he didn't NEED to do it to protect himself was my point as his contract and Barta did that for him. Also you posted as if his intent was to protect himself, but his intent was to get a better staff, just didn't seem to work out.

All will be well when UI plays the powers of the big 10 in the likes of Illinois, NW, Purdue, Indiana, Minney and Maryland. THey will get there wins and evryone will be tainted by those shallow victorys over these crap teams.

You had me until you said win. Iowa won't win those games. book it.

.................Jim Delaney called Gary Barta. They had a conversation about the state of the conference and the state of Iowa football. Jim told him that Iowa was one of those programs that could potentially move the dial on national perception. He went on to remind GB that a contract is coming due with ESPN, and if the conference perception continues to decline, the conference might not get the kind of deal that we once had. In fact he said, the BigTen may have to go to another provider with a less lucrative deal. He said you need you need to make a move on a new coach sooner than later.

ok I dreamed it.

Yes they were 8-4 last year during the regular season, a decent year, but they were still a 2nd tier team. They lost every single game to really good competition by double digits (OSU, MSU, Wisconsin); plus they lost to Northern Illinois at home and only managed to beat a sorry ISU team by 6. The problem is that last year is the the peak of expectation for Iowa football anymore. Kirk is still getting paid for those three great years of 2002-2004; he's been very mediocre overall since. He's had one double digit win season since 2004 and hasn't finished a season ranked in the top 25 since 2009. I'm pretty sure they aren't going to be ranked this year either. The guy so many here seem to hate, Bret Bielema, was far more successful up the road at Wisconsin in his 7 years there; far higher winning percentage, 3 straight Rose Bowls, 4 double digit win seasons in 7 years. Clearly a better coach than Kirk. Ferentz is a middle of the road Big Ten coach and his teams generally reflect that. Only 6 more years to go after this one.

All of those that are calling for the head of Kirk and Davis need to realize where the top is.

Kirk is getting paid 4 million a year, and doing the EXACT job that Barta and Boosters require him to. He's getting us 7 win seasons, and to bowl games that pay. The seats are full. The high money parking lots are full.

Iowa doesn't appear to want to be a BCS contender, they are just happy settling. This is nothing new, this has been going on for 10+ years.

Why would Barta fire Kirk, when he's doing fantastic, and the job Barta wants him to do.

The problems are at the top my friends..

I agree that the problem is at the top. This contract is a cautionary tale for all Athletic Directors nationwide.

And while I don't agree that they are all happy with 7 wins, I think, in the inner sanctum of power at Iowa, there are relatively modest expectations for Iowa football.

If we can't beat Iowa State we certainly aren't going to beat any of those listed teams.

The video is just about so perfect, I'll just leave it at that. Main theme is at 1:56. I'll you decide.

How quickly you all forget about 2002.....

Forget about what? A cyclone loss at home?
Apples and Oranges. Take a look at the scores below.
You really think Iowa's going to score that sort of heat?
You really think the talent level and execution is even close?
Wow.

If this continues, which it probably will, those last 2 homes games are going to be cold and a lot of red will be in the stands.
