kinnick expansion

It's all a matter of supply and demand and as the provider, you always want to have more demand that you do supply.

From the supply side, there is no need for additional seats. It's true that some people who wanted season tickets this year couldn't get them but that is because they can't and don't sell out the entire stadium for season tickets (they have reserved blocks for Homecoming, Hawkeye Village and other situations).

Based on the population of our state and the "draw from" area, there is no need for additional seats. Yes, if we had a top 10 program year in and year out, that would be a different situation, but as it stands now, capacity is just about perfect.

Would I like a stadium that hold 80K, sure, that would be great, but we just don't have the mass to sustain it.

When the second biggest school in a dying state (Michigan) seats 75K, then I think Kinnick needs to start playing a little catch up.

I've been saying this since the '80s: Kinnick lacks "wow factor." It's loud, it's wonderful, it has a lot of soul, but it could use a few more bells and whistles to climb up to the Tier 1 CFB stadiums. If you isolate the West and East stands they look like glorified HS stands. Gotta close in those corners to be big time, imo.

They're second biggest school has as many students as Iowa's two biggest schools combined. FAIL.

I'm in favor of closing the corners to increase noise and give it a newer feel. you might not even have to put seats there

First off, they're =/= their.

Did you take English?

According to Wikipedia, total students between Iowa and ISU equals about 60K. MSU has 48k.

And Nebraska enrolls 24K and has a stadium that seats 81K.

Ticket prices won't go down with an expansion-- not in terms of face value, and not in terms of the secondary market. If anything, the face value will go up to help pay for the construction.

i think we should build the full bowl around the stadium that would be sweet! but also saying that i love kinnick the way it is!! im really unsure about this if we add on and fill it up still thats awesome but if we add on and have empty seats it kind of looks bad!

To my knowledge season tickets have been sold out for 3 years with many people being denied tickets. Continue that for the next 5 years and you have a legitimate case to expand. Remember we lost 1,500 seats with the renovation. 75,000 sounds good, might help keep ticket prices stable for 5 years at a time.

I thought we gained 200 seats on the last renovation.

I would like to demolish the north endzone to match the south endzone, with the scoreboard too. Add in a few more luxury boxes, but that is really all it needs...

I have no idea how many seats that adds.

Two scoreboards that size would look kind of odd, but i would be in favor of having the same seating alignment. The South has a modern look that I like

yeah but how is Nebraska State doing in football this year

Iowa population 3mil
Nebraska population 1.7mil

Kinnick and Trice: 125K
Memorial: 81K

Maybe that's a similar ratio, but it's not COMPLETELY out of the question for Kinnick to expand a few K more, and especially with its closer proximity to major midwestern cities than Lincoln. Iowa football is absolutely the pro team in the state.

I wouldn't mind seeing us bump it up to 75,000 but it is not going to happen anytime soon (according to comments from Barta a couple of months ago; not sure where I heard or read his comments). As much as I would like to see that I think the 70,000 is fine for now. People still seem to score tickets when they want them ... I guess I would rather have a packed 70,000 seat stadium than a stadium with 5,000 empty seats for the dog games.

Your numbers are accurate, but your equation (or rather assumptions) are flawed. If it were that simple...Rutgers would have a 100,000+ seat stadium filled every Saturday. With a waiting list.

That aside, they had their chance with the 2006 renovation and blew it They should have built up the South endzone more...connected it fully to the E/W stands and sought an exemption to the zoning that required a more gradual slope (if anyplace could get it...Kinnick would) making it a bit steeper and tighter. With that...you get 2,000 more seats and a more intense, louder feel to the stadium. (think Penn St endzone)
The same could then be done with the North endzone...building it out over the street a bit if necessary. Then you're close to 75,000 and it feels like 90,000.
