Kinnick: Expansion of Premium Seating on Barta's Mind

They should build a big hill outside the stadium. Think how many butts you could fit on it.

I was at the Michigan game last year. You'll notice the two sets of premium seats. An usher (yes, an usher seated us....1st class all the way I must say) commented the waiting list for the premium seats *after* this latest expansion was something like 2 years, and thus, Michigan is going to continue to build the premium seating all the way around the top!

Arms race indeed!

He isn't talking about prole fans like you. The suites and outdoor club seats have waiting lists.

Haha got to laugh at ^^^^^ this. Do you remember the 1970s? I was going to school at UI then and it was tough to get 50000 in there maybe even 40000 when it sat 60000.

I am no fair weather fan but if the athletic dept has half price tickets on sale this year and they have another crap season it could be bad. And Barta cant OK a project like this himself.

I hope the hawks are great this year and going forward. I have thought for many years it would be cool to have some box/indoor seats on the east side that turned the sidewalk outside the stadium into a tunnel or chunnel.

Like he said, they are not trying to sell these seats to you. Not because you're not a great fan, but because you have no money or influence.

I've been to two games at Michigan (once as a fan, once as a reporter) and I was thoroughly impressed both times. They know what they're doing up there, in every aspect (tailgating setup is perfect, postgame traffic is not even remotely an issue, pressbox food was top-notch, stadium employees were extremely helpful and polite, etc.). Plus, the space in the pressbox was great. Way more room to work than at Kinnick.

More fans like me would come if we weren't subjected to sitting around boorish, drunken fans who display the most appalling behaviors imaginable at games. For example, I was at a game once and every third down the morons in front of us would stand up and yell. They did the same when the ball was inside approximately the 10 yard line. When I politely requested they remain seated, I was greeted with a slew of insults from a man whose breath had more alcohol coming off of it than an ethanol plant. If they made every person over the age of 16 subject themselves to both a breathalyzer and IQ test before entry into the stadium, I think we'd see a lot more fans come and games like the Nebraska game last year would be sellouts.

The alloted space for seats there is about 4 inches narrower than Iowa. You must be as skinny as Karen Carpenter if you were impressed by the general fan experience there.

Not sure if serious, or confusing College with NFL Football.

Have you sat in the club seats at Kinnick? They are nice, everyone has an allocated amount of space and you don't have to worry about some fat idiot encroaching on your space. The bathroom lines are very short. My only problem with them is that wine is not allowed outside of the concourse area.

I was with a buddy, and we were standing the whole time, anyway. So the size of the seats wasn't an issue for us, just like it's not at Kinnick (which isn't all that much better in terms of seat size, anyway).

Where would they go? Could they have room on east side?

This is 100% My assumption, but I don't think they'd go there. They wouldn't want to block of the new children's hospital (which includes rooms specifically designed for football games). Also, the East Stand facade is virtually the same as in 1929, and while I doubt the AD cares, I personally would like them to maintain that.

My guess is that 8-10 years from now, when the new video boards in the north end zone are obsolete, they'd redo the North Stand, adding some club/suite/other premium seating there.

I think it can still go on the east side, and here is my reasoning:

The UIHC Childrens Tower will be taller than the press box. Additionally you can build east side suites with one less story than the press box since you do not need space for the media.

That's pretty funny coming from you. But I do agree, The Big House is way overrated.
