King coming back per tweet

I suspect a lower and less monied projected draft position helped to cause King's return.

Phil Parker needs to help out his player(s),here. Play some press coverage from time to time. Defend pass receivers instead of turf. Modernize pass coverage from time to time. That'll raise draft status (and bring in better athletes for pass defense).

The league is so desperate for guys that can cover 2 deep or press, it doesn't matter, his grade would have to be really low. He probably did his due diligence, but I think it is a promise to Momma that made him come back.

Wowsers. Good news out of ia city? Say it ain't so. I like it a lot. But if I was in his shoes.....$$$

I see where you're at, but we should all keep the Mitch King deal in mind.

As Hawk fans we get rose colored glasses and see things that sometimes aren't really there to the rest of the world. King went from a 3rd round future bazillionaire to the practice squad in a damn hurry. No slight against Mitch, just reality.

Great news for Hawkeye fans. I hope he turns it into great news for him, too, a la Brandon Scherff.

Now, Ott gets his medical redshirt and the Hawkeyes can claim the daily double.

Those two situations aren't even remotely comparable. Desmond is much closer to the prototypical mold for his position than Mitch was for his.

I'm shocked by this announcement. I'm thrilled as an Iowa fan, but can't understand not chasing the money. You can always get the degree later. He's a consensus all American!! How much better can his draft stock get?

If I were him, I'd take a money management class in the spring and then take the money and go. Who needs a freaking degree? Most of us never use our bachelors degree for our careers any way.

King is a special talent. Freaking take a clue from Stanford and use him!

Amen to this!! I remember saying the same thing with Tim Dwight, he was closest thing Iowa has ever had to mccaffery. If Dwight was playing for an SEC team this year, he would have had 30-40 touches a game out of various wildcat formations.

He can get the degree later. What he wouldn't be able to get was running onto the field of Kinnick Stadium hugging his mom on senior day with 70,000 people yelling his name.

Not for nothing but another consensus all american season also gets him on the wall of honor

Dwight was McCaffery before McCaffery was McCaffery.

The misuse of Dwight in 1997 was football malpractice on an epic scale.

I take two things from this:

1) he believes he has room for improvement;

2) he believes that this team has the capacity to do something momentous

TD was 20 years too far ahead. In today's college football he would have been used far more effectively than he was in the 90s.

I agree with you, but what I was getting at was that even though DK looks to be an early to mid round sure shot, we thought the same thing about Mitch. Regardless whether he is a cookie cutter NFL DB or not, what we see in the guy isn't necessarily what an NFL scout does and I don't want to see him take a gamble and get stiffed.

Micah Hyde of the Green Bay Packers is, IMO, in the same mold as King. Was THE cornerback at Iowa. Returned punts. If I remember, Micah Hyde was drafted in the middle rounds by the Packers.

King will be a safety in the NFL and his draft status won't be as high as you think. Iowa's cornerback pass defense scheme doesn't translate to the pros.

Notre Dame used Rocket Ismail in a similar fashion to CM..........Yeah, Fry/Patterson didn't do a good job of getting the ball in TD's hands more. He needed it more than the occasional reverse.

I think his ball hawking skills are better than Hyde. Most draft boards had him rated as the 4th or 5th corner which translates probably 2nd or 3rd. rd. Godfrey and Fletcher were both 3rd rd. picks.

Not every NFL team runs primary press coverage and the ones that do don't do it exclusively. There are 2 deep concepts that NFL teams use, maybe not as vanilla as Iowa does it, but they do use it.

Good lord could you imagine Iowa lining up in the wildcat with Dwight and Banks with a zone read option?

That would have been fun to watch. It's funny to see Tim's name mentioned on this board as I was just talking to a life long hawk fan and we discussed when was the last time we see a player with that kind of speed on an Iowa offense. The name that came up was Tim's.

At the tightend position if I had to name one of my favorites in an Iowa uniform I would have to go with Cook. He was a very gifted player. Not nearly as quick as Stanford's player but for a TE he was damn good. He was MARVelous. :)

Tom Kakert (Hawkeye Report) said on the radio he believes a conversation was had between Beathard and King about next year and that it was something that may have swayed him as well. Unfinished business is the supposed gist of the chat.
