Kid Sent Home for Johnny Football Haircut

oh jeez, I probably better hold off on getting my 8 year old son those tats that he has been wanting.

The school didn't handle it correctly. As soon as they suspended this kid, they screwed up.
It's a haircut. Nothing obscene or objectionable, in fact just the opposite. Kid did nothing wrong.

Per the article, he wasn't suspended.

Even in liberal Seattle, kids get sent to study hall or even sent home if they show up wearing obnoxious clothes, gang colors, or anything else deemed excessively distracting to others. Pretty standard stuff in schools most places. This school had an explicit rule against unnatural hair color, as well; that is prettycommon in the Midwest and South, not so much teh Left Coast.

Yeah, but that rule is the dumb part. Schools (unless private) shouldn't be telling kids how they can cut their hair. I'm not a big fan of dress code either, but that's something I can understand regarding safety. Such as it is in the real world, wearing the wrong colors can bring danger upon the school.

The haircut notsomuch. A haircut is not going to have any effect on anyone else, unless it is some ginormous afro that obstructs views in the classroom. (I could also understand rules for long hair in chemistry, home ec, or classes where long hair can be dangerous.) Outside of a few specific exceptions, we shouldn't be limiting anyone's expression for arbitrary reasons such as "I don't like it, kid, and I'm in charge, so there".
