KF never took the wind in Ames-and usually doesnt

The hawks have played several times in Ames with KF as head coach when the wind was howling in that wind tunnel called a stadium.

And everytime, especially 2005 and Chizik's first year, when the wind was really strong the Hawks won the toss and chose to receive.

Of course we know the rest how the hawks couldnt move the ball, short punts gave ISU good field position and the cyclones got enough of a lead to hold off the hawks, put pressure on Iowa, etc.

The 5 field goal game in Chizik's first year was especially galling, 2007 I think when the hawks lost 15-13. The hawks were down about 9 or 12-0 after the first qtr iirc because their normally bad FG kicker made everything that day.

The funny thing about the new Gopher stadium is that it runs east west. Really weird

and it looks like it will be a cross-wind, more diagonal than sideline-to-sideline.

I noticed my weather app no longer shows the "blustery winds" imagery for the day. Shows winds at NW 16mph at KO, diminishing from there to 12mph WNW at end of game. That doesn't sound terrible for passing, especially late. 20+ is bad.

There is definitely a problem looking into the Sun on most fields.

I wonder if the East-West field layout takes away most of that problem.
