Keys to Iowa win over Wisconsin Saturday night

Turnovers and transition. If Iowa can get Wisky out of their pace/style that will be huge. that was a big key in the 2 victories last year.

Keep them off the offensive boards. Can't let them get second chances with as much of the shot clock as they eat up.

Wisconsin will try to dumb the game down to a slow unathletic pace. Iowa can't get frustrated by this. Several times against MSU, MG tried to speed the game up & get transition going and threw passes away. When you play teams like Northwestern & Wisconsin you just have to deal with it and run when you can.

Indiana made a huge mistake last night allowing Hall to handle the ball late. Unathletic player who can't create and only does one thing well, shoot wide open 3's. That played completely into Wisconsin's hands. If Iowa can keep the game close the only guys running the offense late should be guys who can create like MG, AC, & DM.

Hulls?

The real problem for Indy in the second half was not continuing to run their offense through Zeller.

Last year, at least in the first game, we pretty much turned them into an outside shooting team only and then we buried them. And that was impressive considering we had no real defensive post presence. If we can do that again I like our chances.

In other words, don't let May handle the ball?

MG throwing the ball away in transition wasn't mental errors they were physical ones. The passes were there he just air mailed them. Long passing ability is something you either have or you don't. Hopefully those were flukes and not something we are going to see throughout his career.

I don't call what Wisconsin does...

dumbing the game down. What they do is actually very difficult to do, and the amount of improvement Badgers have made from start of season to now is startling. Wisky's formula is to not turn the ball over, not let you score in transition and try not to put you at the line. Badgers do a good job of not reaching on defense. They body teams/cutters like crazy on defense with their legs and chest. You have to be ready for it and realize they won't try to block many shots but they will body you.

Iowa had success against Badgers last year with our big guys (particularly White) running. In the first game, Cartwright got to the rim again and again. In the second game, Gatens went off and made shots to keep Badgers at bay.

Iowa matches up much better against Wisconsin than a team like Minnesota. Badgers don't have an abundance of people who take you off the dribble and our bigs (such as White, McCabe, Basabe) are comfortable following big guys like Bergren, Kaminsky, Evans, Brusewitz out to the 3-point line.

Will still take an extremely good effort from Iowa and a drop-off from how Badgers have played the last 2 games for Iowa to win Saturday. Jackson's improvement for Badgers has been huge for them. Can't wait for Saturday night.

It's very simple. Carver Hawkeye Arena is OUR HOME. We need to punch the Rodents from Wisconsin in the mouth within the first 5 minutes of the game and dictate the pace of the game. I'm sick and tired of hearing how the Rodents from Wisconsin will slow the pace down blah blah blah and control the game. How about if WE control the pace of the game!? Iowa will win going away. We grew up a bit with that blow-out win over the geeks from NW last Sunday. My sense is a couple of guys that were called out by FM last week got the message (White for one). You could see it in both attitude and body language, not to mention the quality of play, in Evanston.

I also think coach has to go all Franny on them. He scares the hell out my kids when they watch... some of those faces he makes should take 5 to 10% off the opponents shooting average. Shucking a chair or two would be helpful as well.

List them off.

My #1 key.

Get them in foul trouble...they only play 7 guys.

Have to be careful with that as the number one game plan. Number one it is very hard to do. 2. It places your game plan in the hands of what the other team and refs do. 3. Your trying to get then in foul trouble and you lose sight of what you do wellas a team. Not a good plan IMO

This is a good start. We at much better when we get turnovers and can push the ball for quick, easy scores. In this game particular this is exactly what wisky does NOT do. Good an.
