Key issue

In a phone booth maybe. PSU had a good wrinkle that fooled our LBs all night. I don't see many other teams left on our schedule that have both the scheme and the horses to keep that up.

So as long as we play shit teams we have a chance. Cue the Jim Carey scene where he says “So what your saying is I have a chance”.

Never mind I’ll do it myself

My biggest fear? I’m serious as a heart attack on this...my biggest fear is that an entire generation of loyal Hawkeye fans will pass on from this life in the next 10-15 years....and there will still be a $&@!-ing Ferentz on the sidelines as our Head Coach.

How many years of average do you need to watch to understand that he's average?

The meaningful season is over. Play the kids.
We keep hearing how intelligent he is . Quite a few plays he makes the wrong decision on who to throw to . He might be smart but he is football dumb . His audibles are terrible too

I actually think the key issue now that my anger over everything else has calmed down is the field position were giving up in the punt return game. We are a team who counts on defense, and ball control, and limiting drives. For wrong or right that's the way we play, which maximizes the importance of field position. We've lost the field position badly the last two weeks against good defensive teams. In a defensive matchup, you have to win field position. Our average starting place tonight on our drives, the 18 yard line. Its been that way for several weeks. Tough to win for 10 straight plays against a good d to march 80 some yards. Need to spend this week, figuring something out with the punt return game.
Why the hell is Ragani still fielding PRs. He is awful. The worst I have seen. Fair catches at the 5..totally misplayed that one which fortunately didn't bounce off his for a td. Never returns anything. He is the cause of piss poor field position. he's a decent WR though.

Polasek is the main issue.

He has athletic freaks and he’s been here long enough now that his guys have been coached mostly by him.

And his guys suck for the most part.

Nobody can say shit about injuries blah blah blah, either. Every, and I mean EVERY major college football team has to deal with injuries and depth on their OL.

It’s by FAR the most injured unit on every single team and everyone has to be coached up to the point of being able to fill in. You’re going to have guys who are better than others, but everyone has to be able to at least play serviceably. The Paulsons are 5th year dudes and they look like they should be playing at Luther.

Polasek was a quarterback at a NAIA level school in Wisconsin a half click above JUCO, and has zero experience as an OL coach. Someone needs to explain how he got a job coaching lineman at a school that not long ago produced Bulaga, Yanda, and Scherff.

You want to learn how to hire an OL coach google “Wisconsin OL coach.”
This is on ferentz for hiring him. For starters, why the hell isn't Brian the line coach? He’s a hell of a lot more qualified for that than where he’s coaching now. A center running your offense? Nothing dumber than that.

Since that would put me at 65, yeah, I'm frickin scared too!

Like I said last week, against a team that can make a few big plays, that doesn't work.
I like my chances if I can hold you to fg's.
For every two you get all I need is a couple of bigger type plays to work and I'm winning with one score.
Say we each get about 4-5 possessions in a half. You need to kick 50% of those in fg's.
I just need a couple of bigger plays out of 4-5 tries (possessions) and I'm up 7-6. You are wasting all this energy and getting tired on offense trying to string together long drives, I'm counting on busting a couple big run or making a few long passes, or just getting a couple Pi's on long passes. My guys aren't tired and don't have to worry about making every play. All they have to do is not turn the ball over.
It's how ISU almost beat us on two plays!!
Hello is this thing on??
The style of ball we want to play works and works well, but only if you are getting TD's and not fg's.
The game has changed.

Oh and if you are watching. I said awhile back (been saying it for years) that Kirk Cousins would make a great NFL qb.
Him not getting a shot until now is a huge oversight by "knowledgeable" people.
Worked out great for the Vikings to get him cheap though.

It goes back to hiring a failed coach in Davis that the fan base hated in Texas, instead of an up and comer. It appears clear to me he was simply a chair warmer for Brian. A head coach should never hire family, it almost never works out.

It was easy to see from early in the season that he was the wrong choice.

I actually agree with you on this one. Polasek was a reach and quite arrogant to think any D2 OC could coach the Iowa OL. I would say the experiment is a fail. I imagine the Ferentz brain trust hired him as a scapegoat anyways. Probably time to use it. The OL is bad. Flat out by Iowa standards. Couple of really good guys surrounded by undersized or clueless kids.

My eyes tell me that Wisconsin has a much better defense then either Michigan's or PSU's. I shudder to think of a game with our total yardage to be in the negative.

This is you being funny, right? :)

That ball did graze his arm or shoulder. He's lucky it wasn't reviewed.

To an extent I see the argument about Stanley deserving the benefit of the doubt as the revolving doors in front of him have given him anything but time. But doesn't this also support the fact that maybe we need to go with a more mobile QB. I'm not saying our backups are better, but it doesn't appear that our oline is suddenly going to flip a switch and become world beaters. We have a more athletic backup who may not be as good at Stanley when he has a pocket to step up into, but I'm guessing may be better at keeping a play alive when the oline gets beat. Again not saying we need to bench our QB, but when the interior line play has been struggling is it helpful to have a statue back there?

The only way Kirk replaces Stanley is by an injury. You can take that to the bank.
