Key issue

Stanley hasn't been good, but what do you expect when he's got a rusher in his face every time we drop back?

Idk. I am back and forth on this. There's plenty of opportunities he had enough time this game but he didn't attempt to throw anyone open.

The two point conversion wasn't a read he just threw it and even then the timing was off. Same with the slant.

Offensive line and playing calling should carry most blame, but he is also pretty average for a three year starter.

How many years of average do you need to watch to understand that he's average?

The meaningful season is over. Play the kids.

The only point i can make thats doesn’t completely blame BF is that we don’t have an OL who can protect longer than 4 seconds which limits the depth our WR can get.

but then Brian calls plays that take 10’seconds to develop anyway.

This is gonna sound weird, but I really don't think he had a clean throwing lane on that slant. The sky cam showed a small gap between the RG and RT, but either the C or RB was getting blown up in his face, so he couldn't step into the throw.

I was actually expecting a fade, but maybe that's too predictable.

Polasek is the main issue.

He has athletic freaks and he’s been here long enough now that his guys have been coached mostly by him.

And his guys suck for the most part.

Nobody can say shit about injuries blah blah blah, either. Every, and I mean EVERY major college football team has to deal with injuries and depth on their OL.

It’s by FAR the most injured unit on every single team and everyone has to be coached up to the point of being able to fill in. You’re going to have guys who are better than others, but everyone has to be able to at least play serviceably. The Paulsons are 5th year dudes and they look like they should be playing at Luther.

Polasek was a quarterback at a NAIA level school in Wisconsin a half click above JUCO, and has zero experience as an OL coach. Someone needs to explain how he got a job coaching lineman at a school that not long ago produced Bulaga, Yanda, and Scherff.

You want to learn how to hire an OL coach google “Wisconsin OL coach.”

Read this fuckin page right here...

https://uwbadgers.com/staff.aspx?staff=210

...then read Polasek’s prestigious “curriculum vitae” on the Hawks’ site and you’ll see what a real AD does when he needs to go out and get a coach.

That lumpy F Polasek would maybe be qualified to be in charge of clipboard procurement or whistle quality control at a real football program.

As if that isn’t enough for you, Wisconsin’s staff salary is lower than Iowa’s.

The offense guard position

And bad Stanley

so why doesn't our coaching staff try to help out the players? we could go up tempo and tire the defense out instead of letting them catch their breath after every play and pin their ears back and attack our OL. we could use bunch formations and drag a receive in front of the lb's so stanley can get a read on them and they have to honor a receiver. we could go 5 wide and force the defense to take out a lb or a DL to cover. but, you know, i'm not the OC so what i am saying must be stupid or they'd be doing it. right?

Jumping around screaming with a huge pocket sign that says IM GONNA BLITZ JUST WARNING YOU isn’t a great idea but we do that too

I actually think the key issue now that my anger over everything else has calmed down is the field position were giving up in the punt return game. We are a team who counts on defense, and ball control, and limiting drives. For wrong or right that's the way we play, which maximizes the importance of field position. We've lost the field position badly the last two weeks against good defensive teams. In a defensive matchup, you have to win field position. Our average starting place tonight on our drives, the 18 yard line. Its been that way for several weeks. Tough to win for 10 straight plays against a good d to march 80 some yards. Need to spend this week, figuring something out with the punt return game.

He is not good, and its not always because he has a rusher in his face. He is inaccurate even when he has time, throws to the wrong receiver often. Watch 2 point conversion when Goodson was WIDE open in the flat, and Nate throws to Wieting who was covered like a blanket. Nate misses 2 yards behind an open Smith on a slant for a sure td. Nate is a large part of why this offense is so bad.

Because BF is COMPLETELY clueless and literally doesn't know what adjustments to make.

My complaint about Stanley all along is that he doesn't have that ability to win you the game in the 4th quarter. He will probably end up first or second in TD's the end of his career but the fact is that he's not the better than Stanzi, Tate.....

With those guys the game wasn't over when they got behind.

It's hard to blame Stanley a lot here. For two weeks he has had consistent pressure on every passing play. And with 4 rushers. Considering we have 5 o lineman, a quarterback, usually a running back that misses a block and maybe a TE that is a liability in the passing game, that adds up to 7 and usually 8 on offense accounting for their 4 on defense. So that leaves Stanley with someone in his face, knowing he is probably going to get hit, throwing to 3 targets with 7 covering them. Hard to hit that a lot of times.

Look, I don't thing Stanley is great, but he is definitely a B1G quarterback that with protection can do some really good things. The o line is getting out schemed, out muscled and out worked plain and simple, and that is why we are 4-2 and not 6-0.
