Kentucky here we come!

Tell me the bball gods won't make us an 8 or 9 with a date with Kentucky if we happen to win the first game? I feel like it happened 9 straight yrs back in the Davis era when we would win 20 games every yr, and always win the first round. Kentucky or Duke it always seemed to be.
Oh well. Would be thrilled if we won one game regardless. We haven't won one in decades it feels like.

If there was a betting line in Vegas, I'd put down half my paycheck from this week on it. Of course, I don't get paid until next week, but never mind that, I've been feeling this exact same thing for a couple of weeks.

It seems like it, but it really only happened twice: 1992 (vs. Duke) and 1997 (vs. UK). Iowa did play Duke in 1991 in the 2 vs. 7 second round game, though.

As for not winning one in decades.. It's been 14 years, so yeah, close enough. Time to change that!

Kentucky is good, but they are still a college basketball team. They have had some close games this year. Iowa could actually beat Kentucky.

I really don't think we will slide below a 7 seed at all. Contrary to what the committee tells us I believe most of the work is done before the conference tournaments. I think we stay in Omaha and get Kansas in our 2nd game. Given Bill Self's history in the tournament...I would take that seed.

I hope that's the case.. I actually kinda like our chances against KU. I just don't think they are as dominant this year as in past years.

Just don't know what the committee is thinking half the time.. I remember Syracuse being a bubble team, winning 5 games in 5 days in the Big East tournament maybe 9-10 years ago, and getting a 5 seed. 5! Same thing with UConn a few years ago IIRC. If anything, that means maybe over-rewarding conference tournament winners, maybe more than penalizing teams that lose early.

Guess I'm just in "We'll see what happens on Sunday" mode at this point.

My opinion is if we end up playing UK then so be it. I think it would be better to be bounced by possibly the greatest team in the history of college basketball, then to lose to anyone else. To be the best you have to beat the best and while no one wants to leave early, if you have to pick a potential opponent to lose to then why not them. On the other hand, I'd love to see a game vs. Kentucky, despite the outcome I'm sure I'd enjoy it more than another matchup in a tournament setting with a team like PSU.

I just want us to win the first game in the NCAA. If we then play Kansas, or Kentucky, I am just fine with that. I think Iowa has the hops to give either one of them a game. Yeah, we would likely lose, but playing the best would be a challenge worth watching. New flash: If you are going to the sweet sixteen or elite 8, you are going to have to beat a very good basketball team. go hawks!

Haha... Kentucky is better than good. They are one of the best college basketball teams of all time.

I'm hoping for a second-round matchup against Kansas in a 2/7 or 2/10 game. They've got a lot of give-up in them.

Stinks to play Kentucky in round 2 but I just want to win a game on a nuetral court for starters. Let's face it you are playing someone good by the second round any way in most cases.
