kenpom predicts Iowa wins today

2011 scouting report for Iowa

53% liklihood of beating Minny in a 1-point thriller.

I get that his calculations are probably fluid but rest of schedule doesn't look that great. One more win over Michigan and not better than a 25% of winning any other games.

At least his predictions indicate competitive games so you never know what might happen on the court. (Would have liked to see what his score / probability of W prediction was for Wisconsin.) Want to believe if any other opponent shoots as horribly as Wisconsin (Northwestern, Illinois come to mind) that Hawks might steal a couple more.

Edit: If this plays out as predicted it looks like another first round game vs. Michigan in B10-ish tourney. (uuuuuugh!)

He's off on that prediction by 47%...:D

I find it interesting how sports works...Iowa dusted Michigan State by 20 and yet Iowa has less than a 1 in 4 chance of beating them in the rematch.

i find it weird how so many were doom and gloom with predicting no B10 wins and now people are expecting us to upset ranked teams and finish with a few more wins. lets shoot for somewhere in the middle.

Weird? Hell, it's what drives message boards! Everyone runs from one side to the other so fast I'm surprised this site doesn't roll over! Middle? There's no "middle"!:p

Wait, so are you saying i should hold off on my weekend plans in Indy? ;)

that got a laugh out of me! i guess i shouldn't be surprised, but it still gets me how bipolar some fans can be. i still get excited with a win and bummed with a loss, but it makes me laugh that some of the same people were willing to give up on fran before the season began, then after the MSU and Indy wins start calling for a 'run thru the B10 tourney' and will give up on them if they lose tonight.
just like politics, i guess, the middle is boring (and rational), and that's why no one gives any attention to it.

Bingo! sports (and politics) lets our "nutty side" out...which on the sports side, may be a good thing so we don't come unglued from our everyday lives...but on the political side, yikes!

In all fairness I think you just have posters on both sides of the fence. You have the guys that hide until things are bad and come out and ***** and moan about everything. They then shut up when the Hawks win. That brings out the crowd who has supported the team throughout and adds reason for optimism for them.

I honestly don't think you have anyone that switches. Pay attention to the ones who complain about everything and you will notice they are nowhere to be found when things are looking up...

you may be right about basketball...i'll have to pay closer attention. but i know for a fact that there are those fans on this site who act that way about football.
it was ridiculous how many people jumped on, then off, then back on the wagon this season. maybe that's just the internet, the anonymity, and all that where it brings that out of people.
