When he said earlier this year that he didn't think we'd be as good as last year because of all of the talent that left to play in the NFL. You don't just replace Angerer, Edds, Spievey, Bulaga and Moeacki and expect to be as good the next year.

Folks, in an overrall sense we're not an elite program that can expect to go to back-to-back BCS games. We're a good, solid program obviously. But not an elite one that can expect to just plug new guys in there and perform at BCS level.

We shouldn't be surprised at this really.

I don't buy that. If we had a great offense that was getting outscored because of a worthless D, we could possibly blame it on the loss of the linebackers and Spievey.

If nothing else our offense should be unstoppable this year. Very rarely do you have two recievers as good as ours. A senior qb, an o-line that had question marks to start but has played well...

Moeaki was great, but he never had a season where he played the whole year and although Bulaga was also great, last year he missed several games and when he came back he wasn't playing up to his potential. He was drafted on what he had done in the previous years and on what they thought his potential was, not on last year's performance.

Our offense should be loaded for bear this year. One part play calling, another part a qb who even though he cut down on the interceptions he still hasn't mastered the position. His stats don't show it but I don't think he's done a very good job of learning how to correctly check down to find the right reciever. Today's infamous interception was a prime example of him locking in on that reciever from the snap and no matter what the defense did he was going there.

the Arizona loss had nothing to do with who we lost this year....and NW beat us last year with those players....90% of this year is on the coaches and their crap in game abilities

I think that the game of football has passed by the old "Bend and Don't Break." In other words, in this day and age of the pistol offense the short quick throws of a sharp
QB will eat up the Bend and Don't Break because the whole idea of our defense is to stop the run and the home runs. But. offenses like Northwestern with smart high efficiency offenses will eat up the Bend and Break, just like we've seen the last two weeks. Both the Indiana and the Northwestern offenses show up our need to come up with some alternative scheme to play against the quick pass offenses. I'm not even sure the Iowa defense has to be changed up much, but we've got to do something to throw some surprises at opposing QBs late in the game.
