Keith Duncan NFL Chances?

This is a general thread to discuss Keith Duncan's chances of playing in the NFL. I suppose he's in a great position to get a good look and have an opportunity. Does he have enough leg for the NFL? That might be the only question, IMO. He has certainly developed into a great kicker at Iowa, although its been a rather bumpy ride along the way and quite unorthodox.

He started out as the kicker his freshman year than was behind Recinos his sophmore year. He ended up redshirting in 2017. In 2018 he didn't see any game action and was still behind Recinos. He then regained the top spot his junior year and had an outstanding year ending as a consensus All-American and finalist for the Lou Groza award. In this abbreviated 2020 season, his numbers dipped a bit as he hit 12 of 17 FG's resulting in a 70.5%.

So, with his up and down unorthodox career at Iowa which includes an All-American season almost winning the Lou Groza award, do you see Duncan sticking with an NFL team or having a solid NFL career? I hope so. I think he deserves it.

Low chances because only a few kicker slots open up every year and he probably doesn't have enough leg strength. I'd definitely give him a look if I was some team that had to deal with terrible weather and needed a kicker, but he didn't put up huge numbers this year.

Yea, this year was definitely down from last which I'm sure is disappointing to him. The question is was last season an anomaly or was this year with the COVID distraction. I also think leg strength could be a concern. Ironically, hasn't Duncan been pretty accurate from the 40-45 yrd length? or was that just last year.

Last year was lightening in a bottle.

Kickers in the NFL have monster legs now. If you can't kick a 55-60 yarder I don't think you're getting a call.

It's crazy how a 50 yarder is almost expected to be made. There are some big legs out there. That said...consistency is key. You start missing....you'll be gone pretty quick even if you can nail a 60 yarder.

This is where Duncan is right on that edge. He seems to be pretty consistent at 42 yds. What’s the risk of asking him to kick a 50 yder. So nfl team is deciding is it a necessity having a kicker that can kick a 52 yard kick if asked 5 times a year vs an 85% success rate 45 yds and closer. Dilemma. Also a problem if he can’t do kickoffs.

I thought Marshall Koehn was going to stick with a team but he could never last more than a week or two in the preseason where he missed a kick or two and that pretty much ended things for him. Drummer, your description pretty much describes him. Duncan is more accurate with less leg strength. I agree with most here that he probably doesn't make it long term. Unless, he somehow increases his range.

Duncan is a great Hawk, but I don't think he is NFL material. He's a good college kicker who has made some clutch FGs and had a magical Jr season...but these NFL kickers are like friggin' robots and they play forever. It's tough. Maybe CFL?

Duncan would need to get to consistently hitting from 55 yards out and NFL rosters hardly ever have a 2nd kicker to boom kickoffs unless it is the punter and that has happened sometimes.

Great college kicker, made some memorable game winning kicks (Michigan, Nebraska) But doesn't have Nate Kaeding's range or accuracy. Also seems to miss a lot from the 40 yard range on the left hash, seems to push many of those to the right.

He will rightfully get a shot, dont know if he will stick.

He's a little guy with not a big leg. The NFL wants guys capable of kicking 55 yards out which I'm not sure he even is. Granted there's been a boat load of missed kicks and extra points all over the league this year so I bet he gets a camp invite. Can he win a job? I'm not very confident with that.

I saw a kicker trot on the field over the weekend that huge arm tats and looked like he could bench 350. I was thinking "Shit, how kickers have changed!".

I can' remember who it was or team it was for.

Yep, he's right at the cusp...probably needs another 5 or 10 yards for the NFL. Makes you wonder if he's working with any kicking gurus to see if he can stretch his range a bit
