Keep hearing a lot of positive comments about the team…

For some reason Iowa fans have this huge complex issue when it comes to the teams Iowa fields. Most want to down play, down play, down play.....Those days are over imo. Iowa has a lot of talent on the roster and have got to the point where they just reload. They are every bit as good as Wisconsin imo, who is getting top 10 hype, which I don't fully understand, but what the hay.

I will say I can partially understand the Wiscy hype with the QB transfer but Nebraska being touted as Big Ten bullies just baffles me. They are not going to be able to be successful being one dimensional on O running the ball. Unless Martinez has improved a bunch they are not going to bully anybody in the Big Ten. Granted their D is pretty salty and will keep them in games, but if they cannot be effective on the offensive side I think Wiscy is more deserving of the praise they are getting due to their balance on both sides of the ball. We will see how it plays out and I, for one, will be very interested to see how Nebraska plays thru a similar schedule to what the Hawks played in 2009...

Actually I do, anyone who can throw "cat" into a post as much as Chad does is okay in my book. :)

Chad regardless of what you might think I can appreciate having you on this site. In spite of picking on each other now and then we're all still one proverbial Hawkeye family around here aren't we?

Touché.....life's to short for me to build up a nasty dislike for someone. Honestly I'm aware enuff to know I can indeed be quite irritating at times......:D

Defensively, I can understand the bullies nickname. Nebraska's defense is physical as all get out. They're willing to suffer a penalty or two in order to knock receivers around on the outside with very tough press coverage.

Agreed but those blackshirts that are usually knocking receivers around are going to be a little preoccupied against the Hawks as they will be up in the box attempting to slow the Coker Pace...

And Coker will have 1200+ yards by that game.

SDK46, you are about 300 yds light in my estimation...or....nevermind, Coker is going to go the distance for the Hawks at RB this season!

I was being conservative, but considering a new QB and he'll be the featured back and his 200+ yards in a bowl game...yup...I could see 1400+ or more by then.

Bill Brasky is an eight foot two ton monster who can palm a medicine ball.

In fact I’m not sure I have ever heard so many guys talk about so many other guys watching so much film. I was just reading another article about the new WR’s on The Gazette & apparently Shumpert & KMM have both watched loads of film and have been drilling hard all off-season. Which is congruent with what I have been reading in lots of places…..

Apparently these guys have all watched lots of film and put in lots of pass catching and throwing and doing the stuff that leads to great effort and leadership. I think we had some of that last year, but not enuff and not to the extent I’m reading about it now. Team wide it seems they have all worked very hard and take special interest in praising their teammates as opposed to fielding expectation questions like they did all of last summer. I think this team is really building to a special season and they will be a very close knit, fun bunch to watch with a lot of energy and excitement…..

Agree my friend. I, too, have been hearing good things about the chemistry as well. Just some observations from some folks usually seem to be in the know on things. Some people knocked you and wondered if we look too much into positives to latch on to, but you were sharing news that is good to hear. Some players don't work that hard. And some players do ... I think this team will have better chemistry than last year. I think the on-field leadership will be better and that will play a major factor in finishing 7-5 or 10-2.

I am getting more excited about this team every day, but thats the nature of being a Hawkeye fan. Anticipation, counting the down the days to Sept 3. Scrounging for every tidbit of information.
As excited as I am for this year, the anticipation for next year is already starting. Next year they will have a full year of competition behind them so we will know what they are capable of. This may be one of the best era's to be a Hawkeye fan.

This period right now reminds me a heck of a lot about how I was feeling prior to the start of the 2009 season. Based on schedules and experience I was really thinking 2010 would be our year and low and behold it was 2009. I think we could be in for a special couple of years with this crew of fellas though. Let's hope!

Yeah it’s the chemistry that’s got me excited……your are dead on….that is most assuredly the difference between 7-5 and 10-2 for us. And it has been for some time…..

That’s why I pay close attention to what I hear the players really saying. Its not that it was bad last year, but it seems even better and more team oriented this year. At least to me and I’ll admit I’m hoping as well. The thing is we have plenty of talent, but people don’t seem to realize it can all go sideways in a second. Sports like life can be very fickle…can you fight through it or not……

As for what you said Fabfew…..

I’ve said a number of times “target†years aren’t typically “our†years, its years like this that we excel way above expectations.

Just my thoughts….
