Keenan Davis Impressing Scouts At Shrine Practice

There was an article or something a while back in which a scout said Keenan's best football may yet be ahead of him. I buy that.

I have said this several times since the end of this season. Seemed very strange Davis's production fell off like it did at the end of the season. Made a lot of plays after the catch and his skill-set and style are a little reminiscent of Jason Avant of the Philidelhipa Eagles.

From article:Keenan Davis, WR, IowaSome weren’t as impressed with Davis as I was, but after watching enough of him on film to “know what he is”, which is a perfect slot/seam catcher who is efficient in the short area, Davis did even more than I expected. He won’t be an outside-the-hashes impact player, but he can get off-press, gets separation in the short area, and attacks the ball in the air well between zone coverage.
 
It's practice, we talking about practice, not a game, practice...I mean practice. Until I see Keenan do it in a game with the lights on, without dropping anything...I won't be a believer he will be playing on Sunday. Granted, JVB was not good, but I didn't see Keenan get separation in one on one match ups very often. Call it scheme, whatever, I just didn't see it in his last two years when matched up on the outside. I wish him well, but I'm skeptical.

He's helped by the fact that he's not being looked at as an outside receiver. He could probably have success working from the slot; that can help a guy get some separation.
 
I said it once and will again Davis is a better pro WR prospect that Mcnutt was. Those people and you know who you are Like McNutt might go in the second third round. Davis is a pro WR. Unfortunately KF runs a pro offense that is more set for a decent High School. (and yes I said KF, because if there is any one there still that thinks Davis, or KOK has much control of it they don't know football)

How many times have we heard such talk about Hawkeye players in bowl practices, only to see these guys not even get drafted?

Until you run drills at a combine or a pro-day, how you look playing catch at an all-star game is fairly meaningless.

Exactly. I mean, Davis is big, but he's not exceptionally big. He's fast, but not exceptionally fast. He doesn't catch particularly well. He didn't produce much in college, and he certainly didn't excel against better defensive backs.

He's not going to be drafted.
 
My concern will be his shuttle drill. I just don't see how he puts up a draftable number there. But, who knows, maybe he surprises.
 
Time will tell. All star games aren't meaningless and neither are the practices leading up to the game, probably more important to NFL scouts.

Just as in life and all of sports it's often about "the fit".. and the need for the "right fit"

With it.... it will work and success follows.. without it.... failure.
