Football: Keenan Davis Takes New Iowa Coordinator

Not sure if this was posted. From article:

Coach Davis’ speed complaint resonated with Keenan Davis. It was an honest, open observation from the new coordinator about the wide receiver corps. As the position’s veteran member, Davis needed to accept the coach’s message without getting defensive.

“No, no. Not at all,â€￾ he said when asked if he took offense to Coach Davis’ comments. “We’ve got to be faster. I think this summer alone we’ve gotten a lot faster and a lot thinner. I’ve been trying to lose some weight. There’s been a couple of guys trying to lose some weight, just to get that extra push off the line. No offense at all. I’ll be wherever they want us to be.â€￾

Leadership.

I'm not sure how much weight he/they could/should lose, nor how much of a difference it will make in speed, but you have to appreciate the leadership he is showing.

Anybody know who the other couple of guys might be? KMM?

On Iowa!

Almost mature-sounding...
Nice to hear we have players accepting criticism and maintaining some gratefullness...
I like it.

Can you imagine the pout a certain former member of the Iowa receiving corps -- he a frequent resident of KF's doghouse -- would have by now?

This is now the 4th or 5th terrific excerpt I’ve read from team members on most every unit. A posture of maturity, accountability and dedication from the DL, Lber’s, Wr’s, DB’s and I think OL. As I have now said many, many times, what we have lacked is that mental toughness and focus and chemistry. It has shown in our execution and consistency and it is the singular thing that has keep us from 10 wins the last 2 years IMO. That old Iowa swagger that led less talented teams to dominate…it wasn’t scheme or play calling, but I do believe the change has been a bit of a catalyst to reinvigorate the troops by “having†to focus to relearn their positions and responsibilities. It can’t hurt that pretty much everyone, including themselves, have felt liked they underachieved. Hopefully these “words†will show themselves in the fall on the practice field and on the gridiron.

you guys realize these articles aee basically PR straight from the University? Attitude and the ability to deal with adversity are important to every team, but over the last two seasons the coaches did a poor job of utilizing the talent they possessed. To say the players "lacked chemistry" or some other nonsense is to take away accountability for eveyone's role over the last two seasons of disappointment.
To put it another way, ISU, Minnesota, Arizona, etc. didn't want it more. Their players outplayed ours and were put into better positions to succeed. Those are both in the purview of the coaching staff.

Pure conjecture on both our Parts….so I say to you prove it. You can’t & I suppose neither can I, but I can say…watch the tape…..open Wr’s all over the field, horrendous untimely penalties, missed tackles and multiple dropped balls…..execution, execution execution….

It does ultimately fall on the coaches, but it also ALL comes down to execution. Ours has been bad. Different schemes don't make tackles or catch balls….fans call for new schemes, people in the know call for better execution.

Sounds to me like they wanted it more.
Wanting it more is one small step for execution, one giant leap for winning....

I agree the coaches didn't utilize some things as best they could.
Still nice to hear positive things from much needed leaders.
