Katenda

For some reason I think we will get both Katenda and Olaseni or neither. I just don't know where Katenda fits on this team, as we need a post player and from all accounts, he wants to be kind of a Troy Murphy type dude and roam the perimeter vs. play down low. We have Basabe and White already, so would Katenda view those guys as competiton for PT, or would he get slotted into a 5 spot and rotate with Brommer, using Archie for spot duty off the bench?

Any intel on whether Archie plans to graduate in May? If so, that could be another spot, but I would assume we would know by now.

From what I've read, Katenda seem to be a 3 right now and is working on his inside game.

I felt this was just a courtesy visit but then I heard we actually do have a shot! Hope we get one or both of the Sunrise guys!

These two could be pillars in resurgence of Iowa basketball. Katenda-Olesani-Basabe-Marble-White-Oglesby. That's a strong nucleus.

Katenda & Olaseni would be a fantastic "get". Add in one of the point guards we're pursuing...and all the sudden Fran has the best recruiting class Iowa basketball has seen in years! May be pie-in-the-sky...but you can bet that's what Fran & the assistants are shooting for.

Hard to believe that nothing seems to be working out thus far, but with a couple of key signings, things could turn in the blink of an eye. I am not typically superstitous, but I am getting that way with basketball recruiting. I am afraid to even hypothesize about Olaseni and Katenda signing for fear I will upset our recruiting karma. Obviously it would be nice to have both sign for the short term, but it would also help our relationship with their program in KS down the road. Football we seem to get repeat signings from certain programs. Basketball has always been Baskin Robins....never the same flavor twice.

This might not be so bad with Fran's system. Basabe is a low post type scorer. If you could add White and Katenda, they could draw the double teams off of Mel. Mel can beat any one guy to the basket. The problem is when a second guy drops down to double.

That front line would also be good running a pressing defense. Also, if Iowa gets Olaseni or Woodbury to go with Meyer, they will have a couple of guys that can be big defensive players when it is necessary.

Take 5 of those 6 players. Throw them on the court at the same time. That is a lot of height. Try defending that!

They can run and run, when they get tired, the tall guys are still taller. Minnesota had our number, simply because they threw in their taller players. I don't think that is going to be a problem next year.
