A little surprised.

Ross and him almost Hawkeyes. I would've loved to see it and curious how the last several years woulda been affected.

Signed as FA which is effectively the same as any later round pick so.....meh?? Usually FA signing is better than being a 6/7 pick anyway.

Usually but didn't help Akrum Wadley's cause.

Neither did Akrum, who didn't have a solid enough camp to really stand out with the Titans.

Wadley's best NFL shot may have been with a Andy Reid/Matt Nagy type offense, or maybe Kyle Shanahan, but mostly he came up a little short when it came to checking some boxes, which happens to a lot of good college players.

My first impression was that running backs just aren't valued like they used to be. However, looking back over the years there are about 25 +/- RBs drafted each year since 2005. This year there were 24, so that wasn't it. He is on the smaller side.

Higdon was a good back, but definitely not elite and not even a Top 15 RB nationwide. No surprise he didn’t get drafted.

I'd be curious to see if the 24 were drafted lower. I suspect they were. In the absence of overwhelming talent they're a dime a dozen.

RBs with higdons skill set are a dime a dozen. Just in the big ten this year you had: Dobbins and Weber at Ohio state, sanders at PSU, Jonathan Taylor at Wisconsin, Scott at Michigan state and the ozigbo guy at Nebbie

He would make a great 3rd down type back in the pass happy Arizona offense this fall.

Hopefully Higdon and Martin will teach Harbaugh to quit poaching our recruits.

Wadley was a CFL player from birth. He’s a fast slot receiver which is absolutely golden in Canaderp.

He’s hurt now, and kinda screwed up by not going CFL right away after he got cut from the NFL. There is not a more prototypical player for Canada ball in existence with the way they run those offenses with that field and rule set.

Im sure he doesn’t want to move to a different country to play ball though, so I understand it. Tevaun Smith has a different situation since he’s from Canuckistan to begin with.

Not dogging AW at all though. He took a few minutes to talk to my kid at a spring game autograph session, and took pictures with him too. Seriously class act. We ended up sitting next to his mom at the ‘16 spring game and she’s a super, super nice lady. I got the feeling she was way more concerned with getting that degree on the wall than football which, knowing Wadley wouldn’t probably get drafted with guaranteed money, will help Akrum immensely in life.

Football in general both pro and college have evolved. Look no further then that 2 Iowa TEs were taken in first 20 picks and no rbs or WRs had been. That's borderline nuts. Part of it is lack of stud wr and rb products but part of it is just how the game is called and how those positions are used and so easily replaced. A stud versatile TE has so much value now. I dont see that changing anytime soon

To this day the Wadley thing bothers me. I really feel with the right team he could be a poor man's Ronnie Harmon. I imagine it grates on him that James Butler made an active roster and he didn't. I'm happy for Butler, and I hope Wadley uses it as motivation to keep chasing his dream.

I am no Canada expert but have been in Calgary 3 times. Once for work. Two times we went and saw Drew Tate play for the Stampeders. Okay its a different country. But Western Canada is not all that different. When I first got out of Iowa I worked with some guys who told me the difference between western Canadians and Midwestern Americans is minimal. The CFL game is different for sure. Wadley could definitely play in those offenses.

The Houston Iowa leader and I were talking about going to a BC Lions game this summer as Drew is now the QB coach. While she knows him a lot better than I do I have met him a few times. I don't think we will be able to work out a trip however as there were only 2 or 3 dates that would work. Maybe next summer.
