Kansas City-Area Receiver Arland Bruce IV Picks Hawkeyes

I think the Wildcat thing came from Brian Ferentz not Kirk.

Moreso than anything I think it’s about getting the ball in skilled players hands to make plays. That’s what I hope to see more of this year. Like I get giddy about certain formations. Petras in the shotgun with two “backs” flanking him Goodson and Tracy as the backs and Smith and ISM on the outside.... Tracy, ISM, and Goodson on jet sweep action. Stuff like that.

We saw some creativity from BF in the bowl game. I think he’s a good scheme guy so excited to see what he can come up with going forward. One thing is for certain it’s nice to have some skill guys on offense Bruce looks like another one.
No doubt. I loved some of the play calling too. BF had that nice mix of preplanned on plays to run like the sweep/reverse kind of plays to Tracy and ISM. Then he also adjusted on the fly when we had that possession where he just ran Stanley down their throat 3 strait times or whatever it was. Playing that way where you can call anything within the flow of the game that'll catch the D off balance to make it easier on us is what separates coaches at that level. Say what you want about BF but that bowl game and even against MSU last yr has shown when he has time to prepare he's pretty darn good at getting the kids coached up. Not many penalties or the use of TOs unnecessarily. Just solid smart efficient football.

I’m super high on this WR group. Brandon Smith was starting to look like a real star prior to his injury then he goes down and Tracy goes for 88, 130, 77 in the next three games. ISM goes for 121 the following week against Illinois and follows that up with 5 TDs over the final two games of the year. That’s not even mentioning Ragaini who had some nice moments as a freshman and can I even say Oliver Martin who battled some injuries.

Add in a dynamic RB like Goodson who has some burst, can make guys miss in space, and is a very good receiving threat.

The potential is there for this offense and BF/Petras need to find a way to spread the ball around to these playmakers. Definitely need the offense to step it up this year and I believe they will.

Omg yes. I love what Brandon Smith can do. He's a man amongst boys out there. 6'2-6'3. Can jump over everyone. Just provides a redzone target we've really never had. We tinkered with the 6'7 Chandler his freshman season as a redzone jump ball guy before he got bigger and moved to TE. But Smith brings an entire level of athleticism to the position we haven't had. He's a mix of Marvin McNutt and DJK kinda. Probably not the best analogy but I love the kid.

Then adding to it how the other WRs all compliment each other. Kudos to the staff for targeting, recruiting, developing them all. I thought as good as Ragini was for his first season he dropped a few important passes. Feels like that spot could be up for grabs a little if Oliver Martin were to want it. Otherwise he's backing up Smith and ISM at their spots. Have we ever had this much talent at WR? I mean I can't see how we would have.

Petras has the keys to a heck of a powerful fast sports car here. He's got weapons. WRs, TEs, RBs (Plural on all of those) Oline has a few question marks as far as replacing Wirfs and the Paulson twins. But I have all the faith in the world of having that unit ready to go. Jackson at LT should be a man on a mission to get himself in the discussion of being a 1st round pick. So we'll see how well Petras can handle this Mustang. Can't wait

Way to show all those transferring in to play football that you mean business IHSAA. Players from all over are transferring in and suddenly the state throws a flag hours before the season starts. Hope they're doing background checks on everyone else that's transferred in. Pathetic.
