Kale Abrahamson

Was wondering what our chances are with this kid?

6'7 wing from Valley. He's improved a tremendous amount over the last couple years and could still be growing. With Peter Jok transferring to Valley joined by Roy Marble's son, they're going to be tough to beat. Can't hurt our chances that Jeff Horner is their coach.

Not trying to start something here, but he seems to play below the rim a lot more than a 6'7" player should.

Don't know if he has been offered, but maybe that should be a consideration. I really like his game, especially the fact that he doesn't hesitate a split second to shoot, a problem suffered last season, particularly Gatens and May when open temporarily. He can shoot with either hand and seems tailor-made for Fran's system.

That would be something to get three players from the same AAU team that is making waves and should continue to do so this Summer. I remember getting Horner and Brunner and later Haluska, who all played on the same AAU team, Martin Brothers I believe, that did very well nationally. I expected much more from them their senior year, but Northwestern State threw a monkey wrench into those plans. Alford's blackest day for coaching incompetence.

I also like the way Abrahamson doesn't feel the need to dunk the ball when it would be safer to simply make a layup. Something a lot of players should consider. He just takes it to the basket and makes it. He could continue to grow his senior year. I am fairly certain his stock will rise from here on.

I believe UNI has offered him but not Iowa or ISU. From previous threads about him he apparently isn't even considering staying in Iowa. Not sure why and I don't know this myself, it is just what has been discussed. I think Stanford may have offered him as well.

Highly doubt that Marble's son starts at Valley. He may very well be the 5th or 6th player in his class as there is Jok and Nixon then there are 2 other players on Hank Huddleston's U16 All Iowa Attack (formerly Martin Brothers) team.

According to Rivals, he has been offered from Albany, Creighton, Iowa State, Nebraska, Northern Iowa, Northwestern, and Wake Forest. Not too shabby. He also has interest from Boston College, Marquette, Notre Dame, Providence, Stanford, Vanderbilt, and Wichita State.

Four Big East teams, Two Big Ten teams, I ACC team, I SEC team, I Big Twelve team and a Pac Ten team thrown in for good measure.

Isu has reportedly offered him, he better be one hell of a shooter. I'd rather have an ultra athletic wing, but he might help spread the floor off the bench. I don't see him starting at the high major level.

Bench players and role players are somewhat important. There are only five starters for each team in basketball.

He could help off the bench, Ripvdub. Fran likes to substitute in waves if he has the personnel to do so, similar to Mr. Davis's teams. To me he looks like he would fill the bill in that respect. I would like to learn more about his AAU teammate, 6-8 PF Daniel Jansen, who did so well in the U17 championship game against an Indiana elite team.

Looks like a guy who will get out on the break, hit the open shot, hustle, and generally be useful. Release is kind of low, and he doesn't look like a guy to create his own shot.

Lookingbill with two more inches, a little better handle, and a quicker shot. Definitely could fill a role.

It is always hard to tell from HS videos, but from this limited perspective I don't see why people are so quick to write him off. Looks to have a few more pieces to his game than people are suggesting. Plus, he looks like the kind of kid who could end up 6'8" or bigger.

I agree. Players like Abrahamson always intrigue me and personally, I like the 6-7 to 6-9 kids that are not traditional players. I like them at the 4-spot as a mismatch and by the time their jr/sr years come along they are strong enough physically to play defense and rebound against most traditional PF's. These players also are a benefit when teams want to go big becuase they still have the ball handling to play the 3-spot. This why I like Aaron White so much, I see him as the 3 early, but growing into a nightmare matchup 4 player, but playing the 3 most of the time.
You cannot have enough players that can be flexible enough to play both of those positions effectively. When McCabe is all done he is going to be a nice player a great role player, you have to have those to compliment your stars like Basabe. Iowa has one star in Basabe and all the pieces they are putting around him are going to make him that much better. A player like Abrahamson makes your team better.

Quoted from another thread about 2012 recruits:

You can forget Abrahamson, he moved here in 8th grade and doesnt like any Iowa schools. He will most likely be leaving the state to Nebraska, Stanford, or another mystery school

Full disclosure: Ive known Kale and his family since he moved here in 8th grade and I know for sure that Stanford will be offering soon and is probably his number one choice. Hes taking a visit to NU soon and has some interest in them but not a whole lot. He just doesnt have interest in Iowa schools. UNI was his first offer and he barely even acknowledged it when it happened. The kids dream is Duke but thats most likely not gona happen. Hes a fun player to watch and can get a whole lot better.

You can tell by looking at him that he might grow? Interesting. He is a good high school player and probably will be a decent college player somewhere, doubt very much it will be at Iowa. And I doubt that I will care very much.

How tall is he going to be? I couldnt quite decipher from that video

Exactly how many one dimensional in state kids do we need on the roster? Perhaps we should just stop recruiting out of state and truly be the I O W A Hawkeyes. I am reminded when I read posts like this why so many defended Lickliter and hyped Cougill as an impact player.

I guess the fact that we had 3 in state kids on the roster (would have had 4 with Cougs) and sucked last year has been forgotten. Let's make sure we have no scholies available for guys like Cartwright, Basabe, Hubbard, etc., because Iowa AAU stats always translate to the big ten. Heck, we don't need guys that can run, jump, shoot, dribble with both hands, we just need stationary 3 point shooters that can't create off the dribble.

Scary.
