Kaevon Merriweather Opting Out

You really should watch some of the bowl games -- some of these teams are playing for keeps and playing at an extremely high level. Oregon State was motivated to take Florida to the woodshed and did just that; Fresno State also sharp. Want to watch teams that care? Should have watched Jackson St. v NC Carolina for the HBCU championship, which went into OT. YOU don't have to care, but no need to diss those players who DO and play their guts out for their teammates, coaches, families and fans.
Now, that was a hell of a post! Cynics, read it and see weep.

I’m not dissing players. I’m saying bowl games outside the roughly 12 significant ones are a joke. Which they are.

That’s not dissing players. It’s dissing the system.

Sponsorship money has made a complete mockery out of bowl games.
I could have sworn you just dissed the players by claiming they were playing in games that are meaningless. Why don’t you
just admit that you don’t care what players, parents, fans, coaches think about bowl games you find uninteresting. News flash. They don’t care what you think.

At this point these bowls are just a comedy hour. Especially this one.
I bet the Seniors who will be playing their final organized football game would disagree.
I do agree that only the 12 playoff games will be meaningful. Every other bowl game will be a crap shoot to figure out who’s on the starting rosters. Sad time in college football

I don’t care what players, parents, fans, or coaches think about bowl games I find uninteresting. That good enough for you?

You apparently can’t read. I never faulted the players.

It’s not the players’ fault the games are stupid

I'm frankly shocked that Campbell and Laporta are playing, as a Hawkeye fan I love it but if they get hurt in a meaningless bowl game I would feel so bad for them. Bowl games will eventually be played by only underclassmen and players with no professional ambitions. We can't be upset about that. Guys certain to be drafted need some sort of insurance deal with these bowls to compensate them if they get hurt.

What they should do is just cut it down to 12 bowls and allow teams not making a bowl to set up a scrimmage with another team after the season if they want. Then they can have their extra practices and the pine riders can play a game, and seniors don’t have pressure to play if they’re gonna get drafted possibly.

That would bring back some of the glory and accomplishment of actually requiring a great season to make a bowl, and also allow the geriatric set to go watch third stringers have a pillow fight in Orlando if they want.

Linderbaum had a close call last year in Orlando. Does anyone know if the injury he suffered in the bowl game was related to the one that kept him out of part of training camp and the start of the season?

I read just fine, thank you. What would be “good enough” for me would be an explanation of how calling some bowl games “stupid” does not reflect on the teams involved. It might occur to you to learn to write. For example, games you find “uninteresting” are not automatically stupid. Football world ain’t black and white. A large number of your stated views are, however.

From the limited amount that I have read, he is forecast as a late round pick. Is he better than Geno Stone? Not sure. They played different positions; Stone was at Cash, Merriweather played free safety. There is a difference. FWIW, KM was a second team All-American by one of the groups that chooses the teams. KM played a limited amount of football in HS, he concentrated on basketball. What made you say he was an UDFA?
Stone did not play cash that was Belton. KM just lacks football instincts and it’ll show up during draft evaluations imho. Not sue his 40 will impress either. Hope I’m wrong dude gets drafted and plays 10 years.
