Kaevon Merriweather Opting Out

Good. He’s earned that right. For as good as he is on the field, he’s a better person off it. I hope he has a successful NFL career

Yep. After the Summer of 2020, he was an important ambassador for the program. If he wants to shut it down for a meaningless bowl game I have no problem with it. Vice versa, I have no issue with Campbell/Laporta playing, I'm Switzerland in all this, I see both sides

All of these guys pulling out of bowl games are missing a golden opportunity to play in a bowl game, be team players, and represent their team and university well. They get great gifts and wonderful memories that will last a lifetime playing in these games. ;)

I'm not sure that opting out of a game is the same as quitting the team. My guess is they'll have him along with the team, and want him along with the team

I remember when he first saw the field -- if memory serves, they tried him at CASH, and he looked completely lost, made mistakes, and was pulled. Turned out to be a quick learner, tho -- really impressive growth on the field while in Iowa City.

At this point these bowls are just a comedy hour. Especially this one.
You really should watch some of the bowl games -- some of these teams are playing for keeps and playing at an extremely high level. Oregon State was motivated to take Florida to the woodshed and did just that; Fresno State also sharp. Want to watch teams that care? Should have watched Jackson St. v NC Carolina for the HBCU championship, which went into OT. YOU don't have to care, but no need to diss those players who DO and play their guts out for their teammates, coaches, families and fans.

Maybe he gets drafted… is he better than Geno Stone?
From the limited amount that I have read, he is forecast as a late round pick. Is he better than Geno Stone? Not sure. They played different positions; Stone was at Cash, Merriweather played free safety. There is a difference. FWIW, KM was a second team All-American by one of the groups that chooses the teams. KM played a limited amount of football in HS, he concentrated on basketball. What made you say he was an UDFA?

I’m not dissing players. I’m saying bowl games outside the roughly 12 significant ones are a joke. Which they are.

That’s not dissing players. It’s dissing the system.

Sponsorship money has made a complete mockery out of bowl games.
