JVB Sacked for TD Play

The ball as to come out fast and JVB got happy feet too early. Watch the play, he went into panic mode when he saw the pressure. Throw the ball out of bounds fast, take the grounding penalty, you lose 1/2 yard in penalty yards and loss of down. Much better result than a fumble touchdown.

I love the season JVB is having, but he needs to be calmer in the pocket when he sees pressure. He gets the ball out pretty fast...he needs to rely on that. It's ok to throw it into the ground at his receivers feet...Brad Rogers was right there.

HMMMM Intentional Grounding in the end zone=Safety.

Still, a better result than the TD

The worst part about that play is now it will be a long time before we throw from that position again. We can expect about 3 years of run run run punt from inside the 5 now

If Coker woulda ran it and fumbled or been tackled for a safety you would all be saying pass the damn ball.

Can't win ;)
You are missing the whole point of the problem. Whether we run or pass it is Iowa's offensive formation that makes either one risky and this goes for critical 3rd and 4th down short yardage play calls. It is about spacing, (congestion). Split 4 recievers out wide whether we decide to pass or run. You have least 8 less players and maybe 10 depending on what the safeties do

Mogwai saw it correct just as everyone on our game watch saw it. Hawks come to the line, mcnutt at bottom of screen with a 10 yard cushion, and a one count snap, step and throw to mcnutt and he should have got 5 yards miniumum. If he sidesteps the corner he has a big gain. JVB either has to see this and go to it or he needs to be coached up and allowed to go to this quick throw. most other teams would have taken this throw

He should have been in the shotgun and thrown some sort of a quick hitter or a three step drop.

Either that or QB sneak.

Straight drop back play action was a horrible call.

JVB completely panicked and bailed on that play. he could have taken two step, reset, and had 2 more seconds to throw.

What are you talking about it was play action pass, he faked a hand off to the running back that takes a lot more time. He has to drop back farther and a lot less time looking for recievers.

Too bad that at he didn't throw the ball away but he didn't have much time. Just have to get rid of the ball in a hurry in a situation like that and Vandenberg didn't. He apparently did not see the blitz coming. Interesting, considering Purdue blitzed they KNEW we were going to pass...predictable?

"Hey, Iowa is going to pass this down so let's blitz them...they won't do anything to change." Someone watched game tapes (or at least ONE Iowa game tape in the last 11 years) and knew the predictability and attacked Iowa's predictability.

Now we haven't played Nebraska in many years but it won't take them long to prepare for Iowa. Just watch one game of the past 11 years and they will know exactly what Iowa is going to do. AND they can be confident that Iowa will not change anything they do. So Nebraska will attack Iowa's weaknesses and Iowa will not attack Nebraska's weaknesses. To do that the Iowa staff would have to prepare differently and they aren't about to do that.
